Hung over in Honolulu: Another successful GTG

This will probably be more active on the Asia board, where most of the posters from this GTG were from:
http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34860151

Big mahalo to kuranosuke for getting us together! We were most impressed with mrwunrfl, who flew all the way here JUST for the GTG. divediva created a 1/2 business, 1/2 pleasure trip all the way from Maui, as well!

We started off with an "attitude adjustment" with drinks at Longhi's. From there, we had dinner at Seoul Garden, a yummy Korean yakiniku-style family restaurant situated next to one of Honolulu's most notorious strip clubs, Femme Nu. I'll never understand how the two co-exist the way they do!

You can see some of the photos here:

Lots of libations, good food, good conversation all around. We gotta do this more often!

Fantastic photos MelissaHi and how interesting that Russ' best friend is your cousin, it is indeed a small world!! And am I correct, you will be in Paris at the same time Seaurchin is? If so all I can say is lucky you!!

I'm definitely going to have to fly over for the next one! one question, what was in the blue cooler jug?

MelissaHI Aug 27th, 2006 11:50 PM

yes! I will GTG with sea urchin, the famous Barb, and newbie amy in Paris on 10/1. maybe indytravel the day before.

errrrrr, the cooler was filled with ice to chill lcuy's champagne. we use what we got!

The owner of the restaurant, Yun Hee Im, is also the owner of Femme Nu. She has transferred the managment of Femme Nu to her son, Tai, but keeps a close watch from the restaurant which is only yards away.

A little known tidbit is that Yun Hee is the younger sister of Auntie Rose Myong, as in Club Rose. So the business proficiency is very much in the family and one day the family will be inducted into one kind of Hall of Fame or another!

I think it's marvelous how friendships begin on travel boards with a few hellos, and they blossom into these wonderful get-togethers. Looks like you all had a great time. The pictures tell it all: good food, good friends, good times = PRICELESS! Aloha to all!

Where did those kewl Fodor's luggage tags come from??

We've got the ohsogeneric black carryon suitcases -- nice, when we just use them as carryon luggage for our frequent inter-island trips. But with the new restrictions on acceptable carryon items, we had to send them as checked baggage. Auwe! Trying to find _our_ black carryons in the sea of black carryons on the HNL luggage carousel, was a nightmare!

Fodor's tags -- purple for Kaua`i -- would be great. Point me in the direction for ordering, please! 8-)

Melissa, looking at the pictures feels like meeting you again!

(so what was the part III, logically next door to the restaurant? ;) )

Shanghainese Aug 28th, 2006 01:38 PM

Yes, Melissa, I saw the post of the GTG on the Asia forum, sounds like you all had great fun. Enjoy your next GTG in Paris, I'm so envious!

Looks like you guys had a great time - I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it.

I also really like the food at Seoul Garden - the proximity and connection with Femme Nu makes it all the more interesting!

Kal Aug 28th, 2006 02:18 PM

You know, cheppy I didn't go because I knew you weren't going to be there. ;;)

I sure everyone in Longhi's yelled "kuranosuke" (Which when translated means "NORM") when he walked in. :-d
