Humuhumunukunukuapua'a restaurant at Grand Wailea in Maui

Has anyone eaten at Humu's lately? Some good friends are getting married in Maui and I'm thinking of getting them a gift cert to a restaurant for a wedding congrats gift...

It's a nice place for cocktails, but I can think of 20 better places to eat. I rank it last of the restauarant choices in south Maui. It has a less than stellar reputation.

it is easier if you break the word into its components:

humu-humu = trigger fish
nuku-nuku = small snout
a pua`a = like a pig

or, a small pig snouted triggerfish

They grunt like a pig too.

My niece had her wedding dinner there in 2003. I thought it was fabulous -- the food as well as the view.

We were there this year, mid-May it was fabulous! I was hesitant at first due to the mixed reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. The service was iffy, but the food was simply delicious.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

here_today, I too know several other places that I think would be better for dinner but thought it would be the "easiest" gift since my friends are staying at the GW and I don't know if they plan on venturing out much.

But if anyone else has a better "gift" idea for them please let me know! TIA!

Nick's Fishmarket at the Fairmont Kea Lani is only a scenic stroll away and an almost guaranteed good meal and view!

My sister had her wedding dinner there in 2003. It's beautiful. The food was nice, service was good and the view...oh those Maui sunsets....

I agree with Crazy, Nick's was the best ambiance of all the places we dined while there! Food/service great too!
