I don't know if his series was aired outside of California's PBS stations, but they were certainly a great resource for off the beaten path attractions.

He was well known for his "Oh, Maaaahhy!" exclamations.

My dad used to love his show.

I just read that on a news feed. Heull Howser was certainly a character. I can hear his slow drawl-like voice in my head "California's Gold."

Wow, my Dad loved his show too. When visiting, I would watch too. Was it still on the air?

He had announced his retirement just in November, I think, and it was quite sudden. They still air episodes but I don't know if we have seen all of the newest ones or if they are repeats now.

Heull Show "California's Gold" is a very nice show on PBS.

We met Heull at the LA travel show a couple of years back. He is a likable character -- same in real life as he was on TV.

He will be missed. RIP.

Does anyone know if the memorial service will be private?

There won't be any funeral services. KCET did a special interview segment last night with people he worked with on the show. They also have an online memorial page.
