Hudson valley get-away
My husband and I are going to visit the Hudson valley area for one night. We would like to see West Point, and Cold Spring. Am having a difficult time finding a B&B for one night. Any suggestions for lodging in the hudson valley area. Would like at least a view of the river. B&B, hotel or motel ok

How about the Hudson House in Cold Spring. I've never stayed there, but have enjoyed the restaurant several times. Great views.
It's right across from West Point. www.hudsonhouseinn.com |
It's just that most B&Bs have two-night minimums for weekends (Hudson House as well), but it's a nice place to get though I've never stayed there.
If all else fails, you could look in the Harriman area. There are several hotels near Woodbury Common, and that's not terribly far from West Point. I'm sure you wouldn't have two-night stay requirements there. |
I can't seem to type this morning. I meant to say that Hudson House is a nice place to eat.

I've stayed at the Hudson House. I thought it was fine.
Up the street (without a view of the river) there's also Pig Hill Inn, a B&B with some private bathroom rooms and some shared. http://www.pighillinn.com/about-inn.html There's another inn up the hill http://www.plumbushinn.net/ sorry to say I haven't tried that one either, again it's set back from the river, close to Boscobel. |
Is it still possible to enter West Point? I thought the only opportunity was by attending the football games.
|
We visited last year and stayed at the Thayer Hotel at West Point. There's no problem entering the USMA premises - we just said at the gate, "We're staying at the Thayer." The guards may chose to search your car or not.
I was not impressed with Cold Spring. |
I think you can still tour West Point although it may not be as extensive since 911. Has anyone stayed at the Cromwell Inn or Bear Mountain Inn?
|
I think the Bear Mountain Inn might still be closed for renovations. Beautiful area, though. Good luck.
