Hudson Valley: Blue Hill at Stone Barns - accomodations nearby?
Hi -
we're going to have a late dinner (only reservation i could get!) on a saturday in october at the restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns. I figured we may as well make a weekend of it - since it's for our anniversary and it would be difficult to drive back to nyc so late on saturday night. i'm looking for a romantic b&b nearby. the two suggested by the restaurant were The Castle on the Hudson and Crabtree's Kittle House - both of which are out of our price range - especially since the dinner will probably be very costly! i know that there are a ton of b&b's in the Hudson Valley - but since the meal will end at midnight and we'll have had some wine by then - I don't want it to be too far.... any ideas?? (i'm open to taking a cab too if it's not too far) thanks in advance! |
I don't know of any B&B's in the Tarrytown/Pocantico Hills area, but I do know the closest places to stay are the Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott and Springfield Suites by Marriott (all in Tarrytown), there's also a newer Comfort Inn on 9A in Hawthorne, which is also close. I live in Tarrytown and go to Stone Barns often, it's an amazing place, enjoy! The nicest of these is the full service Marriott, you might be able to get a good weekend rate there.
|
In addition to owlwoman's recommendations, there'a also a Hampton Inn and Renaissance in the area.
I would also recommend contacting the Marriott in Tarrytown for a weekend rate. |
We stayed at the Kittle house and the room was 129 per night. The restaurant is very good but the rooms are just ok but certainly a good choice for the area.It will be hard to find anything in that area for much less.

How about the Tarrytown House. We've eaten there and it has rooms. The grounds are nice and it's close:
Tarrytown House 49 East Sunnyside Lane | Tarrytown, NY 10591 | 1-800-553-8118 Here is the link to the Westchester County Tourist website: www.westchestertourism.com It gives you the phone #s of the hotels and motels (and websites where applicable). It lists 3 b & b's (one of which is the Kittle House) |
We once stayed in Tarrytown on Priceline. So....very affordable! Don't remember the name of the hotel, but I bet someone here can supply it - it was very large, and surrounded by very attractively planted grounds and gardens. (I want to say it was a Hilton, but could be wrong about that).

tuckerdc is probably talking about the Marriott.
|
Why not take Metro North or a private car service or a cab? If it's too expensive to stay overnight, the last train is probably midnight from Tarrytown or White Plains. If not, a car service or cab won't cause you that much. The restaurant won't be open that late anyway.
|
Actually, the last train leaves Tarrytown at 1:02 a.m., arriving at Grand Central at 1:52.
|
Tuckerdc is talking about the Doubletree Hotel. That was formerly the Hilton. I think that they're closed now due to renovations or some flooding that happened there.
|
The reason why I said the Marriott because tuckerdc said it was a large hotel. And, the Marriott is much larger than the former-Hilton-now-Doubletree, though you could be right!
The Doubletree has been closed since a major rainstorm a few months ago flooded its basement (at least) and caused major damage. |
Visiting Tarrytown ad not going to the "The Castle" for stayover, lunch, dinner (Equis Restaurant" or just cocktails would be unbelievable. Hotel is pricey. Excellent restaurant with a prix fix lunch ($35.00 and dinner ($75.00) menue. The main building of The Castle is almost 100 years old ad is in fact a miniture castle with wood work brought over from Europe. The Marriot Hotel on Tarrytown road is about a 2 minute ride to The Castle. about
