Hows the New England foliage so far
Here in Northern Vermont's Lake Champlain region things seem to be slowing down. We got off to a blazing start two weeks ago, but
lost momentum. Also, we haven't had a frost yet to really spike the colors. Got off to a fast start with low 40's late in August. Also, looks like we won't be getting anywhere near frost temp in the next week. Whats going on elsewhere? Kingdom? Northern NH? |
hi celfan, i'm in central maine. just today i started to notice a bit of color. nothing very bright yet except the assorted maple. was out on my lake today and not much even by the water. no frost here either - yet.

I just read a report that there isn't much color at all in the Plymouth/Rumney NH area yet I would estimate at leat 30% color along Rt 93 in the Concord NH area. There are some trees that are already leafless. Earlier predictions was that due to the wet year color would last longer. But I don't think color is slowing down. Swampy areas are already in good color. I see a swath of full color at the edge of a hayfield where I suspect a swampy/brook area exists. There's a full moon on Oct 6. We'll probably have a frost around that time.

For those interested in following foliage in MA -
Mass Foliage Hot Line 1.800.227.MASS Website for details on forests/parks/ where to view on mass.gov/dcr/forparks.htm so far south of Boston, some bright patches here and there but not worth the drive...but remaining hopeful. Conflicting reports with some saying we might not get a great show this year - many leaves already off trees, esp maples b/c of early spring disease from too much rain and other trees b/c of the worms.... but still hopeful ! |
In Amherst Mass, things are starting to turn. I would guess peak is about a week away ... |
Oh that gets me so excited!!! We'll be there in one week for hopefully the "peak"!!!!!!
