How was your weekend? Monday, September 4
My weekend is not over yet, Labor Day off work.
Woke up to the horrible news about Steve Irwin. It's cold in San Francisco. |
I am also sad to hear the news of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter.
On Friday DH and I got some bad news, as DH is now on layoff notice. It almost spoiled our weekend, but so many friends, both on and off this board offered support so our weekend wasn't all bad. Thank you all. |
I'm working today.
Yuck. My weekend was good, ran my 16 miles and had a great big steak and two glasses of pinot noir for dinner Saturday. Sunday I did nothing. Notta. Zip. Zilch. |
Picked up tree limbs, sticks, and leaves all weekend. Our beach weekend in NJ was canceled because of Ernesto.
|
I ate dinner with new bf - found out he is allergic and his face swelled up - imagine my surprise - he got upset when I called him baloonman. Now I think he is mad at me. next.
|
peeky, that was funny! Is he allergic to shell fish? What made him balloon up? My DH found out he is allergic to shellfish in HI. Bummer that. He lost 2 days due to consequences of eating lobster, which was on top of some steak.
|
Birdie: our beach weekend in NJ was also cancelled for the same reason. We would have stayed at my brother's vacation place, and he went anyway. He got flooded, trapped in the house, then went out for food when the tide went out, timed it badly, and the car was flooded on the way home when the tide came in. I've just been hiding out at home. We shopped, ate, watched movies and took the dog for a walk in the woods. She is just 9 months old and it was one of her first times in the woods and off the leash. It was fun. But I am loving the quiet. Everyone thinks we went to NJ, and the phone has hardly rung all weekend. Tomorrow: back to reality. Sigh... |
My weekend is also not over yet. I am, however, working a little. I volunteered to do the ads for the Hawaii Woodshow, happening Sept 15-24, so I'm working on that pro bono.
Saturday, sold my car (the first one I've ever owned!) after 16 years. boo hoo! It's moving to Hilo so I won't even get to see it zipping around Honolulu. then I took my new car shopping, to see how many shopping bags I could possibly stuff it with. ;) Sunday, ran 10 miles instead of 14 (got kinda sick). Will make it up and run 10 miles today. ...after my astrological reading! Alice Inoue is a renowned feng shui expert, among other things, so I thought I'd give her a try this afternoon. I'll probably spend my evening crafting my Chicago itinerary and finalizing my Paris itinerary! |
My weekend was a mixed bag... two great day with a friend in Santa Barbara relaxing and then returned home to my real life... lots of stress at home these days.
Good friends help heal the hurts though... that's for sure. |
Just before I got going on my measly two and a half mile jog today, a bird pooped on the top of my head, dead centre. Snapped a nice photo of Belgian horses at the local fair yesterday. Beautiful weather on the west coast of Canada all weekend. Sad to hear about Steve Irwin.
|
I GOT SUNBURNED!!! I CANNOT believe it. It rained both days in the mountains - but went out on the boat with overcast skies anyway. Today, the sun peeked out so we played in the water. Got home. I'm sunburned! Can't believe it.
Ernesto made it difficult to get back from NY on Saturday night. A very wet weekend all along - until the last few hours of the weekend. |
Saturday was great! I met NeilofOz and his darling wife in SF, we had a 3 1/2 hour lunch and two bottles of Italian wine.
Relaxed yesterday and tried to catch up on things today but basically couldn't as so many companies are closed. Weather here is still so beautiful, it makes up for all of the rainstorms during spring and the triple digit temps for a long spell after that. I hope everyone has a good week! |
Let's see...Mr. Pickle and I saw "The Lake House" at the dollar theater Friday night; I cleaned house Saturday; we went to church Sunday; today we slept in, played fan tan, grilled steaks, corn on the cob, and veggies, and took the kids to see "Cars" since it was .50 Family Night at the aforementioned dollar theater. It's been a nice weekend.
Mr. Pickle has tomorrow off as well, and I think he has some projects planned. Ds has a baseball game in the evening. Lee Ann |
Worked at the hospital all three days! Thankfully, it was a very quiet stretch. The glories of Fall are starting to appear here with changes in the afternoon light, a touch of cool and everyone(including all the UC students) is back in town! Saturday we ventured to The Cheeseboard our favorite pizza place and the line was LONG!
Yesterday: slept in and read the NY Times Nupitials with a cup of joe in the bed. We had a leisurely breakfast and I cooked up a mushroom lasagna for the two days before us. (It's in the most recent Cooks Illustrated and is GREAT). Today: slept in again and cleaned the kitchen from aforementioned big cooking yesterday. I then (now that my foot fractures are healed!!) ventured out into our garden for the much needed clean up.I trimmed lavender, planted violas, and watered. It felt great!! I even got to visit with our neighbors which I have missed while being "in rehab" with the foot stuff. I saw twins 2 weeks old. Their parents stopped to ask if we might offer Pedi advice(She's an ob-gyn). It took everything they had to get their kids and their dog and themselves out of the house before noon. I thought they were doing very well to have pulled that off! Gabbed with several other neighbors going about their days and felt "connected" to "the hood" once again. I gardened until the very last minute, showered and made it to "the job" just before 3 pm. All in all, it was a glorious start of Autumn. We are one more weekend closer to Montreal!! |
I don't know.I guess all in all is was an OK weekend. My favorite tennis star,Andre Agassi, retired and it was so sad watching him cry.
Then my favorite show host 'Steve Irwin' died in a tragic accident.Very sad. And the races I was watching this weekend a man had to be flown to a hospital. He was in a really bad crash. I don't know if it's just that I'm focusing on the 'bad' things that happened or what but I am coming off this weekend a little depressed. Debbie |
My weekend was very relaxing, but exhausting! Moving a little slow this morning...
I took my puppy camping and we went on lots of hikes, played ball, walked along the beach and I went kayaking too. (Haven't quite figured out how to get the dog to stay in the kayak yet!) I also slept 10+ hours a night in the tent - love sleeping outdoors! And I spent time reading, talking with friends, and making s'mores by the campfire. *sigh* back to to the real world today... P_M - I'm sending positive thoughts your way! But... as someone who has been layed off or downsized 4 times in the last 15 years, sometimes these things happen for the best. There may just be a silver lining here somewhere... Good luck! And GoT - Congrats! I'm proud of you! |
I spent Sunday evening in the fog on a leased boat with 45 16-year-olds chaperoning a combined sweet 16 birthday party for dtr and her friend. No one but husband and me seemed to notice the 2 1/2 hour "cruise" seemed to go in circles in the inner harbor of Boston, planes were flying overhead en route to Logan. No one but husband and me got the joke when I started humming the theme song to Gilligan's Island. Discovered my dtr listens to the worst music - as it blared over PA for 2 1/12 hours. But she and friend said party was a success.
Today dtr back to HS and son back to Savannah for college tomorrow. |
Weekend was great - we hiked, went to a great art exhibit at a local museum, had a fab dinner with friends, and shopped till we dropped on Monday. Nice way to end the summer.
Sorry to hear that the weather didn't cooperate with some of your plans. I hdate when that happens. |
Despite the lousy weather, it was a terrific long weekend. Dinner parties and BBQs everyday, old friends, new friends, family, long walks with the dogs, great buys shopping (michael Kors shoes for $32 including tax!). Highlight...seeing not only one, but both of my longtime babysitters (they were high school friends). They both sat for us for 10 years. they would talk about boyfriends, nightlife, where to hang out after babysitting for us, etc. Now it was hysterical to see them talking about strollers, high chairs, & baby toys as they are both new mothers. It was great to see how successful both turned out. Both married great guys, and have great careers-one is a teacher, one an psychiatrist. 2nd best thing- 17 y.o son just got his driver's license and was able to drive himself to work at 6:30 am and we got to sleep in!
And now, a short work week due to Monday holiday! |
We spent Sunday and Monday at Ocean City, NJ and the weather wasn't bad. Overcast Sunday, but still OK for the beach. It's a great skimboarding beach, so the kids were happy. I had a good run -why is running so easy on the beach and so extremely awful on the treadmill?
My sister and I had tix to see Carlos Mencia at the Borgata in AC Sun. night. He was hysterical. My son was jealous and wanted to come, but I think 13 is a little young for Mencia's content. He was happy that I got him his autograph - Mencia stayed on afterwards and signed autographs and posed for pics. Where did the summer go?! |
