How to pronounce Albuquerque?
No, I'm not trolling. I found an interesting program based in Albuquerque, NM. As I still struggle with English, can you kind people help me to say it? Jokes are welcome too, but serious answers are much more valuable.
And if I go, I'll ask you later about Visa requirenments, language, currency, customs, the whole enchilada :) |
Albakurkee

Faina, most Americans pronounce it "Al-buh-KIR-kee". Like what wilwl wrote.
If you're a Spanish-speaker, well, it's pronounced exactly as it's spelled. And aren't we all glad? ;) |
Faina.....If you go, you gotta check this out....

RJW, fortunately or unfortunately, I came from Russia, the language is very different from Spanish. In Russian you say a word practically the way it's spelled.
Thank you both for explaining! The spelling alone gave me a couple of grey hairs! |
BeachBoi: aaaagrrrh.... you must know from other threads I'm afraid of hights! [(
|
Faina...You will be cured!! It is soooo breathtaking....a bit on the decptive side I might add, going up anyway.
|
Al-buh-KUR-kee
If you come, let me know - maybe we could have lunch or something! Oh, and you can drink the water here. :-) Lee Ann |
I suggest you watch some Bugs Bunny cartoons. Make sure to make a left turn :)

Hi Faina ~

<<Oh, and you can drink the water here.>>
Well... it may be safe, Lee Ann, but given your recent news I'm not sure Faina will want to! Congrats, BTW. |
True enough, Beachbum, that was good!
I, myself, would like a case of it shipped to my DH and I. ((L)) :S- |
ncgrrl scooped me, I was going to suggest Bugs Bunny as well...very good!
|
LeeAnn, definitely, I love pickles ;)
Thank you, everybody! I've checked already - there is even a direct flight from SF! It's not 100% yet, I'll have to decide after my September trip. But... knowing how to say where I want to go helps :) |
And regarding water... I agree with the statement "save water, drink beer" or... tequila in this case ;)

BeachBoi--I've been married 36 years...my husband and I have hiked all over, including the Angels Landing hike at Zion where he swung merrily away on the chains at the very top where it drops off hundreds of feet on either side of the trail, as I turned green and backed down. I NEVER (!) realized he had even the slightest problem with heights until we were riding that tram at Sandia Peak. He was literally sweating and white knuckling it. I joked, thinking he was just playing around with me, the Chicken, but no, he was dead serious. For some mysterious reason that tram scared the beejeevies out of him...where it didn't bother me in the slightest. I KNOW I have a problem with heights...but in all these years, never had an inkling he did until then and I'm not sure he knew it either. Weird, what sets someone off but doesn't bother the next.

>>Well... it may be safe, Lee Ann, but given your recent news I'm not sure Faina will want to!<<
:-D I think she's out of danger - but thanks! LOL Mr. Pickle, my bil, and our son went up the tram the other night and had a good time. They had dessert at the restaurant and said the view was lovely. I elected to stay home since I'm not fond of heights. :-) Lee Ann |
Oh, no, no, BeachBum, I love little gherkins ;)
