He could not have left the airport as the only road in and out of the airport was closed due to accidents. From news report the airport is fully operational but planes are really backed up. It will take awhile to clear out. The road to the airport is now open. CDOT is in the process of clearing a hundred car pile up on I-25 north of Denver. And I-25 is south is still closed. This equaled a level 2 hurricane.

We were lucky. Our city neighborhood is somewhat protected from high winds like that. So it didn’t blow so fiercely right here, for more than a couple of minutes at a time.
And, we were fortunate we did not lose power, although it did flicker yesterday and homes in nearby Lowry were out.
Not much accumulated at our home. Maybe 4 - 5”. No drifts. But snow stuck firmly to our windows and exterior stucco walls. Stuck on stucco.
I’ve seen at least one much worse snowstorm in this particular neighborhood. Knock on wood.

This happens. Fortunately it doesn't happen every year. We frequently have heavier snow falls but the wind was the back breaker. And six hours of rain before the snow was not helpful. Had that rain been snow we would still be digging out. The high winds caused a lot of problems with old pine trees. Around 30 were down across Denver. And most landed on cars.

Was out to dinner tonight. All the major roads are clear and dry. By next week just another memory. Ten oclock news will give update on the airport I am sure. Going to be at Breckenridge all next week. Expecting perfect conditions.

Spring is still 5 days away (March 20). I hope everyone makes it home in time to shovel to their front door before going back to school.
Today's eastbound #6 California Zephyr will arrive in Chicago about 5 hours late but at least it is still rolling. The next 2 days the coach seats are sold out.

We kept checking SouthWest's website and were able to get him on a direct flight home on Sat. He'll get in in the afternoon and can work Saturday night. I was surprised that a seat opened up, so if something like this happens again I'll know to keep online to see what becomes available. Thanks, again, to all for your input.
