If you are referring the the Hansom cabs in Manhattan, you need to go to the cab stand across from the Plaza Hotel (59th & Fifth Ave/Central Park South).

I think the key to hailing a handsome cab is to be good looking yourself.

(Sorry! I couldn't resist!)

Sadly, it is usually hard to tell if they are handsome until it is too late ;)

Try yelling "Hey Handsome!"

Oh boy. ;) There is no way to "hail" a handsome cab. You find one that's stationery (not moving) on Central Park South, as lindall said. Choose one that you like, negotiate a price and the length of the trip.

Now that you have that info, know that it's not a good way to see Central Park. The carriages can only go on the roads. The best way to see the park is to walk.

if you want to hail one that's stationery, then just wave a pen or pencil.

(sorry again. I'm not usually so mean...)

stationAry: A stands for attached.
stationEry: E stands for envelope.

Nice to know Mrs. Jacobs, my fifth grade teacher, taught me something I still remember.

You can;t hail one - if it's moving it either alredy has pasengers or is on the way back to the stable. The only way to get one is to go to Central Park South and negotiate with teh driver of the HANSOME cab.

Agree this is not a good way to see the park - since they are limited to the roads in the park - and cannot use the pedestrian paths (which you need to reach most places in the park).

An apple or a carrot should do the job. Hauling around a bale of hay would work too, but does get tiresome!

Before you take a hansom cab ride, please check out this website: http://www.all-creatures.org/nyca/ch-acc.html
When I was a kid, my parents took me for a hansom cab ride. I loved it because I love horses. I still love horses and that's why I wouldn't take a ride in one today.
