How to get to Nassau Coliseum from Manhatten

Have posted this message already but under the heading Andre Rieu tickets. This new one might get more response. We will be in New York April 2007, and have found that Andre Rieu and his orchestra will be performing at Nassau Coliseum Friday April 13th 2007. Is it difficult to get to the staduim from Manhatten, is the bus or train the best option? How long does it take to get there? All advice appreciated. Thanks so much

From their web site:

By Bus
Take the Long Island Railroad to Hempstead train station, walk one (1) block to the Hempstead Bus Terminal. Take either the N70, N71, or N72, which will drop you off on Hempstead Turnpike opposite the Nassau Colisem, or take the Long Island Railroad to Westbury train station at which there are no buses available. Information for all buses to and from the Nassau Coliseum can also be obtained by calling 516-228-4000

By Train
RAILROAD: 516-822-5477 and 718-217-5477.

***There is no bus service available from the Westbury train station; taxi only.

The train ride is about 30-40 minutes from Penn Sta. Personally, I would go by train and take a taxi from the train station to the coliseum.

The above posting is a little confusing. The ONLY way to get to the Nassau Coliseum by public transportation is to take the Long Island raiload (commuter train) from Penn Station in Manhattan (34 st. & 7th ave.)

But you have 2 options for trains. Option A is to take the train to Hempstead, a bit of a rough area in parts. A block from the train station in Hempstead there's a bus station where you'll find buses that makes a stop opposite the Nassau Col.

The other option is to take the train to WESTBURY and from there, take a taxi. If I were doing this trip, I'd train to/from Westbury and use the taxi. When you arrive there will be taxis. You should make an arrangement to be picked up after the concert. Here's the train sched.

Ofcourse the other option is to rent a car.

If it were me I would rent a car for the night.

But - if you want to usepublic transit don;t go through Hempstead. Much of the area is QUITE unpleasant and the bus station is NOT somewhere you want to be - esp after dark due to indigents and drug activity.

Your only real option is train to Westbury and cabs back and forth. You must organize the return cab in advance - and get the company's phone number - since taxis in the suburbs are not numerous - and, if busy, can be unrealiable. Also - note that in the suburbs cabs charge by the person - not the trip.

You could also organize a car service both ways - (Carmel or Dial 7 or ?) but that would cost more than renting a car yourself.

Thanks everyone. I think we will flag that idea, we are only in New York city for four days, and with the amount of travel we would have to do and the price of the tickets, I think we will do another Broadway show instead. Have already booked for Wicked, will plan on getting dicount tickets to another show a bit closer to the time.
