How to get to mammoth cave national park?
 

I would like to visit the mammoth cave this summer, but I cannot drive.
Is there any local tour that I can join in the city to get me there?

Mammoth Cave is located off I-65 between Bowling Green and Elizabethtown, (Kentucky). You might check with Toby Tours or Shockey Tours in Louisville to see if they have a day trip that goes there. Where do you live?

I am from Hong Kong. As I couldn't find any information about the tour before, I have not decided where to stay yet, Do you have any suggestion?

Toby Tours is located in Louisville. If you use them for a day tour, you will need to leave from there. Louisville is Kentucky's largest city and has several museums including Churchill Downs where the KY Derby is run. We also have the Mohammed Ali Museum (the boxer) and the Slugger Museum where you can see Louisville Slugger baseball bats being made and receive a miniature one as a souvenir.

Without a car, you will probably like to stay downtown. The Galt House Hotel, located along the Ohio River and Waterfront Park, is one suggestion. There are numerous restaurants to choose from. If you Google Louisville, you will find lots of information.

Mammoth Cave is, of course, a U.S. National Park and has room and restaurant accommodations, but you would need to book probably pretty far in advance for a room and for whichever tour(s) you are interested in. Without a car, it would be difficult to visit the Park.

Is this something just high on your list to do? I was slightly disappointed with it. I found Carlsbad Caverns to be much better. If you can do "The Wild Cave Tour", if you are adventurous.

perhaps my post sounded negative. It is a huge big big cave, but ugly. It just struck me odd that you were coming from Hong Kong to see Mammoth Cave. We did enjoy The Wild Cave Tour. I would do 2 or 3 of the tours if you come as they are all different.

Which tours have you done, or which do you recommend? I suppose I've been thinking of going to the Mammoth caves just because they seem the most famous and the place to go if you visit Kentucky. But if others are better anyway, that's okay too. I was also thinking of seeing the Lost Sea in Tennessee. Any comments on that?

I did the Violet City Lantern Tour and The Wild Cave Tour. Violet City has a lot of history in in and was interesting. It was about 3 hours.
The Wild Cave Tour has a lot of crawling in very tight places. You will get very dirty. Tour last about 6 hours. It has only a few people on it and you would want to make reservations as soon as possible for it. You eat in the snowball room. The only other tour that eats in the snowball room is The Snowball Tour.

If you visit Kentucky, it is one of the top attractions. Kentucky Derby and Corvette Plant are others. I enjoyed the Corvette Plant and museum, if you are into that sort of thing. I haven't done the Lost Sea.
