How to get from JFK to Times Square?

All,

First time in NY is coming up in April and I'd like to get some advice on the best way to get from JFK to the Millenium Broadway just off Times Square on 44th and Broadway?

Super Shuttle?

Taxi?

Bus?

Other...(please explain)

How many? I happen to like public transit, and you can easily take the LIRR or even the subway from JFK (via Airtrain) into Penn Station, from which you can take another subway or a taxi up to Times Square. If there are a few of you a taxi or car service may be better.

There are lots old threads on Fodor's about this topic, in various forms. Try searching for "JFK."

Super Shuttle is not always reliable and they may make many stops before yours, making your trip unnecessarily long. Taxi and private car service are flat rates and that's how I would travel. The car service usually has a larger, more comfortable car than a taxi and you can reserve ahead. Then when you retrieve your luggage, you call them (they always have cars in the JFK area) and they will tell you where to meet your driver. I think It's about $45 plus $4 toll plus gratuity. Carmel and Dial 7 are just two offhand.

DO NOT take the Super Shuttle--this service doesn't work well in NYC. Too much driving around in NY traffic o pick up and drop off all the passengers--the subway is faster.

Is price of import?

A taxi would be $45 plus toll and tip--therefore $55-$60. If there are at least two of you, a taxi becomes very affordable.

AirTrain + LIRR costs about $14 per person and involves shlepping luggage on and off transportation. But then you'd still need a taxi or subway to get to the Millennium.

AirTrain + subway costs $7 and would get you closer to the Millennium, but still involves shlepping.

Express Bus from JFK to Port Authority Bus Terminal (41st St/8th Ave) costs about $15 and you'd arrive just a few blocks from your hotel.

A car service would be the easiest and they are only a couple of dollars more than a cab.

For more than two people, Airtrain is not worth any savings.

If you do take the subway, I'd suggest taking the E to the 7th Ave. stop. Walk across the platform and take a downtown B or D train to 42nd street. (Two stops)

You'll be two blocks from your hotel.

It really depends what your budget is and how many people you have like GoTravel mentions.
