how to get from I'l Drive to Kennedy Space Ctr without a car?

In august we'll be staying on I'l Drive right over Pointe Orlando again. We've been there a few times now and never rent a car. Now we were considering a visit to Kennedy Space center. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get there easily, if with some shuttle company, what it would cost? And do you think it'd be possible to include a visit to the beach or go shopping in the area? We would like to go but are a bit scared of not being able to get back to I'l Drive, since public transports stops quite early.

Are you sure that you wouldn't just want to rent a car for the day?

If not, there are many transportation companies in Orlando that do KSC tours. It means being on a bus with lots of other people on the company's schedule, but it's certainly a possiblity. Just google "Kennedy space center tours" and you'll have lots of the pop up. Some include KSC admission and some don't, so check on that. With admission, expect to pay approximately $85. You could also try posting your question on tripadvisor.com's Florida forum. Someone there may be able to give you a reference for a specific company.

If you're at all interested in space, science, or engineering, KSC is an all-day experience. If you're not a huge fan of those things, you can do a cursory tour of KSC (see the Saturn 5 exhibit, take in an Imax movie, see the Astronaut memorial and the shuttle mock-up) and still have some time for shopping or the beach - just not a lot of time. To do that, you'd have to have a car.

You are better off renting a car for the day. You will then have the option of going to the beach and any place else you would like without running up a huge fare per person by chartering a company. I rented a car, I stayed on Disney property, to go out to Kennedy and I am so glad I did. Have fun on your trip!

i know this sounds weird to you in the States but here in Antwerp we get around with public transport as well and yes it's a lot better than Orlando but we do not own a car and will not rent one either
so if you have any suggestions for travelling without a car? thanx!

Unfortunately, public transportation is sadly lacking in most parts of Florida, including the Orlando area. If you don't want to rent a car, try one of the tour companies that take buses out to the Space Center.
