How To Fly Into NYC?
 

We want to go to Manhatten this fall.
Into which airport should we fly? Newark? Laguardia or JFK?

And, how do you suggest we get from the airport to Central Park West?

LGA is the most convenient to Manhattan, by far.

JFK -- 2nd choice.

EWR -- 3rd choice.

From LGA & JFK, a taxi or car service to CPW is best.

My answer is "it depends on where you are coming from"

In my opinion, a non-stop into JFK or EWR is preferable over a connection that takes you into LGA. LGA is limited to flights of 1500mi or less, meaning most points beyond Chicago or Dallas are not allowed non-stop.

EWR is served well by Continental, and JFK by AA, JetBlue, and Delta. (plus many others)

LGA is the most convenient from the upper west side - but it also depends on what flights/fares you can get. Search your options for timing and costs before making any decision.

If you can save $50 per person on your air fare by flying into one airport over another, that savings will cover any extra expense of getting to Manhattan from one airport over another.

NYC cabs carry a maximum of four people, and charge the same fare for one to four passengers. For two people (you did say "we") cabs are only slightly more expensive than an airport bus; for three or four, they are the best way.

Mass transit is do-able and cheaper, but are problematic if (1) you are travelling during rush hour or (2) have a lot of luggage.

Just to clarify - are you considering taking public transport? If you don't have too much luggage, this is an easy enough option from Newark and JFK. If you take the train in from Newark, don't take the Amtrak, take NJ Transit. It will leave you in Penn Station. From there you will have access to the A,C,E and 1,2 & 3 subways, which all serve the west side and can take you to CPW. If you come into JFK, you would take the Air Train, that connects to the E train, which is among the subways that serve the east side. Both options require you to buy a ticket for the train and a metro card for the subway.
If you have too much luggage, its easier to take a taxi.
