How safe is Taca? Iberia?
 

Are the planes Taca or Iberia use old? Are these safe airlines?

Probably better to post on the Airlines board, or possibly the Europe board.

Airline safety has more to do with the maintenance of the equipment (and the ability of the pilots) than its age. Northwest has a great safety record, but a large portion of its fleet is made up of DC-9s; these haven't been made since 1980. They're old planes, but immaculately maintained.

I have flown TACA approx. 4 or 5 times to Guatemala and have never had any major incidents with them. One time they were late - that was the only problem. The terminal in JFK in NYC ius like a zoo and we had to get there very early, but once we got on the plane everything was fine. With today's flying restrictions we have become used to this. The first time I flew TACA I had the same doubts as you, but I was very happily surprised. By the way, the planes were relatively new and well-maintained.

Unsafe airlines have planes that crash, and can't fly anymore.

This means you can't book a seat on them.
