How Old Is a Travel Recommendation When It Turns Stale?

Just curious about this. Most people who recommend hotels, resorts, restaurants, etc. here don't mention when they last visited.

Does a travel recommendation (good or bad) lose its validity after a period of time?

Should we refrain from making a comment if we haven't been somewhere in ___ amount of time?

I would say, don't refrain, but if it's been a while, you should mention when you went. It also depends on what feature you're referring to -- a hotel's location near an attraction or tube station will always the same location, but the quality of food at a restaurant can change as rapidly as the staffing!

IMHO, queries about business hours, admissions fees, etc. are best answered by the attractions' web sites since they can change at a moment's notice, too.

I agree and generally will try to mention how long ago I was at a particular place in my review or recommendation of it.

Wendy

Yea, or "I was thinking of visiting Gaul. Is it all still divided in three parts?"

Even "Yugoslavia" is old as of a couple of days ago. The new non-stale term is "Serbia and Montenegro."

Well, that is an interesting question. No shelf life on tips.

How many tips are actually taken?

Is a travel tip like an offer for help? With the expectation that you won't be taken up on it?
