How much money do I need to live in Sacramento or suburb areas?

I just have to know. I'm beginning to get the idea I cannot live in East Sac, Roseville, Granite Bay, Folsom or Carmichael if I make less than 200K. Is that true? I would prefer to avoid private schools for financial reasons. What is your opinion? Thanks!

No. Not true in The 'ville. Unless you have to keep up with the Joneses and buy the 5,000sf house?
Why do you have that idea?

I don't think that could be true. Are you planning to rent or buy? Have you contacted a realtor to see what prices are in the areas you are interested in? I have heard housing prices in some areas near Sacramento have dropped quite a bit. I would definitely talk to several realtors but would keep pursuing your options. Good luck!

Thanks you guys. I have someone in Davis who keeps insisting that our family will be miserable unless we're at least making 200K with allt he taxes and costs. I should check out a reputable realtor. Thanks!

My mother lived in Carmichael a few years ago, granted she was renting a 2BR apartment, but her income, all from retirement and Social Security wasn't more than $50K. So you can live on less than $200K, just gotta be realistic as to size of house, yard, etc.

I live in one of the places you listed and we don't make that kind of money. Kids seem perfectly happy. Housing costs have gone down all over. You can find a pretty good deal these days.

I think Davis is super spendy.

Oh BTW most of the places you mentioned are real towns and not suburbs of Sacramento.
