How much for Maui is okay ?

Hi,
I am looking at a package of 4500$ for Hyatt Regency Maui for 2 adults and 2 kids ( 5 & 2 years old). This includes airfare( from bay area),hotel and car plus taxes. How low have you paid for a 4.5 hotel in Maui ?

TIA
Rea

Airfare: $500-600 pp, ~2500: divide the number of nights into the ~$2000 left? Is this a 10 night stay? (assuming ~200 for a 7--10 day car rental).

Yes, how many nights are we talking? If it's at least seven, this isn't bad...

Sorry, meant to write it, it is only a 5 night 6 day package, but it is around the Christmas week, this year.I just want to figure out if I am going way over or just a little bit.
Thanks

Is "going over" ever a good thing?
Not sure what you mean here. Are you referring to splurging a little or a lot? If so, then go for it. Your family deserves to splurge 1x or 2x a year.

I have a friend who got a room at the Hyatt for $150. per night summer before last using Priceline. I never manage to get deals quite that amazing. And you might not get the bedding situation you prefer with Priceline. You MIGHT be able to shave a few hundreds off if you really work at it - booking each aspect of the trip yourself. But you're going at high season, so maybe not. The convenience of having it all planned out might just be worth the extra money. I'm sure I have overpaid in the past (using TAs especially) but I sure don't regret spending the money at this point. I have some GREAT memories with my family and some GREAT photo albums.

Just keep one thing in mind. If you get a terrace room it overlooks a parking lot. If you get a partial ocean view it overlooks a roof and is towards the back of the hotel. You must lean over your lanai (balcony) to see the ocean. If you don't mind what your view is then go for a deal. We upgraded to a deluxe ocean view there just to have a good view.
