How many trips per year?
 

Just curious... how many trips per year does everyone take? I try to go on about 3-4 trips per year... 1 trip is usually 5-7 days, the others are usually long weekends. I always wish I could do more.

As many as we can!

We usually take a week long "big" trip to somewhere out of the country, and a 3 or so long weekend (3 or 4 nights) trips.

I need one of these long weekends every few months or so to tide me over to our next big trip.

I'm actually on the internet right now trying to plan our next long weekend since my girls weekend trip for Savannah in November seems to have fallen through!

I take at least one 2-week trip/year overseas, but in a good year I'll do two such trips. In addition to that I take 3 or 4 long weekend trips/year. I would do more if not for those pesky time and money constraints. /:)

Business or Pure Vacation? I take at least 15 business trips a year - most to wonderful places that I try to turn into vacas. In the past 6 months I have been to Vienna, Paris (2x),Berlin, Vegas (3x), Orlando (2x), Dallas (2x), Scottsdale, Maui, San Francisco (3), Laguna Beach, LA, Aruba and Chicago. I try to include family and friends in my travel to take advantage of the different places I go!

Being a certified old guy, retirement has treated me pretty well. This year, I have had four trips so far. One was for three weeks and a day, the second was 17 days, the third was 13 days, and the 4th, 5 days. I have at least one more next month which will be for about 5 days. These do not include several overnights to visit the kids and grandkids who live only a few hours away.

Wow,cfntmpn... that's impressive but I was mostly talking about pleasure trips mostly. Unfortunately, I don't get the opportunity to travel for work... I should look into a career change though, lol..

We also try to do one big vacation, and a lot of shorter trips and long/regular weekends away, plus my husband does one big ski trip (I don't ski anymore and although I'm invited, I don't go). So, this year the big trip was Hawaii, plus by year end we will have been in Santa Fe, Tahoe, Chicago, Palm Springs and New York. Next year, the big trip will either be East Africa (where our son is living and working this year) or, if not, Australia (maybe both, about 7 months apart). The shorter trips aren't usually planned that far in advance, so no idea where we'll go.

Not enough! ;-) We had a big trip this year - 2 plus weeks in Europe - generally we try to do one family vacation a year and one for dh and I.

Doesn't always work out that way...

I take 2 trips for work each year, if I'm very lucky it's 3. then I tack a couple of days of vacation on. I take 1 -2 personal vacations on my own. I kind of know a year in advance what the business trips will be, so I can ration my vacation days accordingly. I wish I could travel more, though!

I am a traveler in transition. We used to take one family summer vacation plus I would go to Florida to see brother in winter - plus seeral assorted very short trips.

Past few years have been to drop off/pick up son in Savannah and recently to visit every college in Western Hemisphere with dtr.

But in one year - lots and lots of short trips. Husband travels on business, we have tons of FF miles, he will have hotel room paid for by business, and the cats will not miss me for a few days.

We take at least two one-week trips for sure -- one relaxing, beach vacation; and one go-go-go trip to a place we've never been. That way we're both happy. Plus some time in Florida and a long weekend somewhere else, usually.

That's not nearly enough, but you know, time and money...

Hmmm..It varies.

So far this year we did a 3 weeker to Prague/Krakow/Rome.

I did a girls week in Phoenix and so did my SO, but we did them separately.

We still have another long weekend in Charlottesville, VA. Thanksgiving in NYC and two weeks for the holidays in Arizona.

Depends. I try to get to Europe every other summer. So those years, it's Europe and just one winter vacation somewhere tropical.

If it's a year I'm not including Europe, then two tropical vacations (Hawaii and Mexico) plus maybe a long weekend somewhere west coast U.S. (San Francisco).

DH & I try to take at least one week-long trip per year, sometimes we luck out & get two, & we try to make them 10 days trips (thru 2 weekends) anymore. We also take some long wk-end trips thru-out the yr. I'm like mah1980, I have to have some short ones to keep me from getting depressed between trips! I'm much happier when I'm planning a trip.

We got married 15 years ago & vowed we'd have a honeymoon every yr. So, in our first year, we bought time-share so we would HAVE to go someplace. In 15 yrs, we have been on 35 trips together & each have been on a dozen or more for work. We've been in 40 of the 50 states. My best friend does 3 or 4 overseas trips a year, but we've only been to Ireland with them. We prefer seeing the beauty of our own country, but we have been to Canada, Bahamas & did a Mex. Riviera cruise last March. We are also bull riding fans, so we try to go to the PBR finals in Vegas each Oct. And I've been on several trips with my sister & my friend and also have a good friend in Texas & try to get down there at least once a year. Our kids have been on a few trips with us to Branson, MO, Hawaii, Las Vegas & Canada.

This year, my son asked me to go with them & my grandson, Payton, to Orlando & Ft. Myers Beach. The fact that we could use my time share for lodging at WDW had a big part in the invitation, but I didn't care. Seeing that 3-yr-old get so excited he cried the first time he saw Mickey Mouse was PRICELESS!!! I highly recommend it for all grandparents. I just wish we could take all 6 of our grandkids to WDW, but DH's nerves won't handle it! LOL.

I retired early from my 8-5 job & now I just do cake decorating so I can pay taxes & travel. In a new travel club I'm in, we do plan to do more trips, as we can get them so cheap!

This year, we had 9 days in Vegas, part business, part pleasure, 7-day Mex. Riv. cruise, Orlando 5 days, Ft. Myers Beach 4 days, OK City 3 days, and are going to Minneapolis 5 days & Vegas 5 days in Oct. Looking at Vegas & Aneheim next Feb. & yesterday I booked lodging in Dresden, OH for me, a friend, a niece & my daughter-in-law for April.

Does anyone have places they have been to & love to go back? Or, is your attitude like my friend, who says once she has been there, she doesn't want to go back, except DC where her daughter lives.

Also, trips on my "really want to do" list: Belize; train ride across Canada; Utah, Idaho, Wyoming & Montana; Key West again (1 day wasn't enough) & Costa Rica.

This year will be three big trips, plus we always do an extended family trip over Labor Day weekend.

My biggies this year were a two-week trip to Utah and Colorado, ten on-the-ground days in Italy, and coming up in October, a week in London.

Labor Day weekend we went to Cincinnati. They have made their old railway station into four different museums and an Imax theater. They also had an exhibit of a genuine pirate ship recovered from off Cape Cod, which I believe is going to be shown in other places across the country. It was interesting, but the big hit was the children's museum since we had little ones along.

Gosh, I love retirement!

Looks like three for me. A week in New York in February, 11 weeks to New York and Europe in May/June/July, and a week to Tucson and Phoenix coming up in October. But does the 11 week one count as more than one? LOL

I get one trip a year. It lasts anywhere from 8 days to a month depending on the destination which is out of the country.

Then I take day trips throughout the year to tide me over. The day trips don't require house sitters and hotels, so the cost is minimal, and I get to see things in my area that I otherwise wouldn't see. It's also easy to take my nieces along and give them the thrill of seeing new things.

Usually just one big one. This year it will be two. We do little one day side trips in our area couple times a year, usually the fall color season for sure.

It's hard to calculate. We try to do one lengthy (2 weeks or more) trip to europe. In the summer we go to the beach on weekends.

Other than that we both travel quite a bit on business. The beau now does about 20/25 trips a year - since I'm consulting now I only do about 10 - but have done 50 plus in past years. We sometimes - given the location and time available - tack a day or two of vacation onto the trip. But - usually it's not possible; sometimes not desirable.

Generally, two trips abroad per year, although this year we chose to do this only once (and spruce up the house with the leftover $$$).

Aside from this, I visit my family in the NE twice a year and my family in the SE 3-4 four times a year.

I also try to get away to do some genealogy research at least twice a year, usually only domestic, but in the past I've visited England many times for this purpose. (I don't really need an excuse to go to England - I love it there!).

Next year, we'll have at least two weeks in Ireland and are considering venturing to South America.

We generally take 1 big trip (about 1 weeks long) and as many weekend trips as we can - generally 3-4 these days.

We we have finished fixing up our house, I want to take a summer and do a bunch of little trips all summer long.

This year we did 3 one week trips and one two week trip. Next year, one two week trip, one one week trip and a couple of 3 to 4 day mini vacations. One of those will be to the Grand Canyon! Never been.

What do you all do that you have this much vacation time?

My dh and I are both attorneys, and we have no restriction on vacations. Of course, the rub is we still need to make our hourly requirement. So no 2 week trips for us!

Please tell me what jobs allow you to have this much vacation time (or if you live in Europe), so I can see about a career change! lol

I would love to take more time off for travel but being that I'm self-employed, I don't get paid if I don't work. I'm only able to take off a few days at a time and I try to combine weekends or holidays with these "extra" days. I do however try to take at least one longer week trip per year. This year I went to Hawaii (Oahu and BI) in February.

I am retired secretary, I now decorate cakes and have 2 at-home MLM businesses. DH is 30+ year rural mail carrier, gets 4 wks VL yr & can carry over from yr to yr. He also sells crop insurance on the side. Kids all grown & gone, so income finally outweighs the expenses, so we do what we love - travel. We have been truly BLESSED!! God is good!

We both get 4 weeks of vacation a year, and we usually take 3-4 long-weekend pleasure trips, plus 2-3 trips to visit friends or relatives. Some years we get to take a weeklong-or-more trip, but not too often.

About a week of vacation days are spent just bumming around the local area, often showing visiting friends around--Seattle, so there's plenty to see and do.

There's never enough vacation to travel to all the places we want to see, but we can't complain--we're lucky to be able to get away as much as we do, and the local area has lots of interesting places to visit. Most years we get to at least one or two new cities in the U.S.

Mah, we're both attorneys, too, but DH works for a bank, and gets a lot of use-it-or-lose-it "personal time" (combined vacation, sick days and personal time off). I'm with a firm, but my billable requirement has always been 2/3 of full-time. Now that my kids are older (one still lives at home, but she's at community college), I tend to work full days when I'm working, and take more vacation days when possible (I used to work 3-1/2 days and take 1-1/2 days off when they were little, then I switched to working 5 days but going home at 2:30 every day, now I'm on this new "schedule"). Fortunately, I have a lot of flexibility!

Things will probably change next year with a 2nd child so no big trips planned after Xmas.

10 days Speyer area/Prague (includes DH work trip and we are tagging along). I try to go on his work trips when possible and explore. Will probably go to TX at the New Year's (work related but toddler and I get to go out and have fun while he works!)
We have at least 2 more football games to attend in Va and will probably take off Fridays to lessen the driving. We try to check out new towns if we have time in the Cville area.

We don't like to stay put for very long and I want my children to see as much as possible as well! I hope I can instill the love of travel in them at a young age. My 16 month old has already seen/done more than most people I know here in this small town we live in!
