How many times? (Vegas)

Just curious how many times a year do or could you go to Vegas. Do some of you go annually? We love Vegas, and have been 3 times in the last 3 years. We could go annually and we are not big gamblers.

Ani May 28th, 2002 04:34 PM

Totally agree-we love it and are not big gamblers either...were lucky enough to make it 3 times last year alone.

k May 28th, 2002 05:02 PM

We usually go twice a year.

Lee May 28th, 2002 05:28 PM

We love Vegas too. Fun, Food, Entertainment. Bright Lights!! I hit Sin City once a year!!

Anthony May 28th, 2002 05:45 PM

We go 2 -3 times a year.

Typhoon May 28th, 2002 06:02 PM

Hated it. Tacky and gaudy - Celine's Arabian Nights wedding on a city scale.

Families, with STROLLERS, at all hours, at the slot machines. Sorry - but I do not see gambling as a family holiday. I was disgusted.

Restaurants were either cheap (5.99 buffett) or expensive ($100 per head).

I asked for sightseeing and was told to tour the casinos. "Any art galleries", Museums?"

The only highlight was the quiet of a spa and a helicopter tour out to Grand Canyon - that was the most spectacular sight.

It was all my husband could do to get me to stay the full 3 days. I wanted to leave the moment I walked into the MGM Grand - I have NEVER been handed a map to find my bedroom at a hotel.

Thank goodness the trip was free.

Vegasvisitor May 28th, 2002 06:07 PM

Typhoon needs to stay home permanently. Nice way to ruin a fun thread.
kenny May 28th, 2002 06:14 PM

I don't think typhoon has ever been there, and in fact is just blowing a lot of hot air...
Strollers are not allowed at the slots...security will not even let you slow down with a stroller or child in tow...
The art gallery at Bellagio had an incredible collection, and I've seen many. If you wanted to see art and didn't know about it, you didn't do your planning very well.

Mario May 30th, 2002 06:36 AM

My wife and I used to go to vegas 4-5 times a year. Then we had children. And since then, we've been to Vegas twice in the last ten years.

Silver&Gold May 30th, 2002 06:48 AM

Once a year. Twice would be fun. Acutally, it would be fun to take some 3 day weekends too!

p.s. Typhoon - if you or anyone else goes to Vegas and you don't know what to expect, then you:
a) Are a complete moron
b) Are a total boorish prude
c) Didn't venture off of the Strip
d) A narrow-minded, ignorant fool

Personally, I find room in my life for everything from the classics to the downright trashy. Appreciate it for what it is. Or just stay home, where it must be perfect, huh?

noname May 30th, 2002 06:49 AM

I hated it too. HATED it! The WOW sights like the volcano were just plain cheesy. Though the exteriors of some of the places were fun to see (NYNY), inside, it was tired and depressing. The casinos were depressing period and the smoke in them disgusting! Yuck

And, SA Kenny, when Wynn sold the Bellagio, the art collection went too. There are occasional traveling exhibits now, and that's it.

The whole LV atmosphere was like a bad carnival, with spectators and "workers" to match.

xxx May 30th, 2002 06:57 AM

What's up with Typhoon and Noname? You can tell that they are negative people in general just from the tone of their posts. This thread was obviously started by someone who likes Vegas asking others who are frequent visitors how often they go. If you don't like Vegas, why respond at all (not to mention that Typhoon's post was replete with inaccuracies - food was either $5.99 or $100 per head - Come On!).

xyz May 30th, 2002 07:14 AM

Las Vegas, the Gatlinburg of the West. Yeehaw!!

gamblin May 30th, 2002 08:07 AM

typhoon & noname are typical of some who just don't get it and are unable to stop whining about it.
las vegas is fun.it just depends on the person.obviously these two are not much fun anywhere.
which is fine-less of them, more for us!

Whydosome May 30th, 2002 08:29 AM

The same number of times I go to NASCAR races, eat at McDonald's, watch Jerry Springer or drink Miller out of the can while wearing a t-shirt. NEVER!

ryan May 30th, 2002 08:47 AM

We try and go to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year. We don't go to Vegas looking for culture, we go looking for "VEGAS!."

The thing about Vegas, is that you can make it as luxurious a trip or as low-brow a trip as you want. My wife and I opt for the former. We stay at Bellagio, we enjoy the high end dining options, we usually see a show, and she usually shops and hits the spa.

For a long weekend, it fits both of our needs. But, if you want museums and art galleries, go to San Francisco or New York. We like doing that as well. But, we also like to play craps until 5 in the morning and see a few shows.

Mindless Bubbas with mindless Bubbettes hanging off their muscle shirts, wafting the scent of Avon behind them. Snapping their gum. Toothpicks after dinner. Pick-up trucks with the kiddo peeing on some logo. It's all there, it's all happening, in Vegas.

cc May 30th, 2002 08:51 AM

That's exactly why hotels like the Bellagio exist. Isn't that their motto? ... Mindless Bubbas? I hated all those pickup trucks there!

dd May 30th, 2002 09:06 AM

cc-and didn't you hate it when they all came parading into Le Cirque??
I especially dislike having to deal with those Bubba-women when I want a nice quiet massage at the Spa.
I guess, Bubbas are the way of the future,no?
tom May 31st, 2002 04:26 AM

I don't think half these posters have ever been to Vegas - if they have they must have spent all of their time at Westward Ho or some other equally luxurious casino.
