My wife & I have slept (amongst other activities) in all fifty states. Here's a photo from our night in Rhode Island, the last state on our list:

I'm not actively trying, but we'll probably will visit the states we've missed once we retire and have time for road trips. A bunch of them are grouped together (Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa). We'll probably be in Minneapolis this summer for a wedding, so that one will come off the list. Plus I've been in a few my DH hasn't, and vice versa, so not sure if we'll "double back".

Some of mine are accidentals, too, passed through because they were on the way. I have not counted 2, Minnesota where I changed planes, and N. Dakota where I saw Fargo's then tiny airport from my seat on a quick stop on the way to Winnipeg. I doubt I'll get them all, for various reasons.
Will we count non-state US territory next? DC, also USVI & Puerto Rico. Some in the Pacific, those I suspect I'll never see.

Of the ones I'm missing, I really only want to go to Alaska, Utah and Vermont... setting foot in all 50 isn't a goal of mine, although I respect it as an organizing method for travel.

I'll get Georgia eventually. I've flown over a few times.
I think people are being a bit snotty about not wanting to visit states. Every state is unique and worthwhile to visit. I'm always surprised when I meet Americans who know a lot about Slovenia but don't know where the Great Plains are.

If you think Iowa is a plains state, you're wrong.

I'm not at all convinced that a refusal to want to see all 50 states is "snotty." Like everything else travel-wise, it's a question of priorities.
I very much hope I can get to not only all 50 states but all 50 state capitol buildings as well. But it's not for everyone.
In my case, I will be ecstatic if I can see everything I want in Canada, the US, Australia, and Europe. I just won't have the time or funds for Asia, Africa, Antarctica, or Latin America. Snottiness has nothing to do with it.

I think people are being a bit snotty about not wanting to visit states.
I think people are merely prioritizing how to spend their time and money.
Every state is unique and worthwhile to visit.
Some are just more unique or worthwhile to visit than others.

I saw a heck of a lot of CA before I ever went anywhere else, so that's sort of like the Japan thing, right?
We like traveling domestically, but for us, we are prioritizing international travel for now. I accrue a fair number of frequent flyer miles through my work travel, so we have been cashing them in for free airline tickets for the past quite a few years and because we are only in our 40s, we can still stand long flights in coach. In the future, who knows?
