How many days recommended for Williamsburg stay?
 

We are 2 seniors planning to visit Williamsburg for first time in early April, 2016. How many days/ nights do yo recommend we stay at a hotel? Which hotel/s would you suggest if we want central, newish, and close to much of the attractions? Are there some aspects of Williamsburg that we absolutely should not miss? THANK YOU SO MUCH! Suzy

I'd stay a minimum of 2 nights. But 4 would be better because of all the other nearby sites (Yorktown/Jamestown etc.). You'll really want about 1.5 days for Colonial Williamsburg - thus the 2 nights. Be sure to go to a candle light concert.

I'd stay in one of the on-property hotels (but can't recommend which since the two times I've been I've stayed in a timeshare for a week a few miles away)

We stayed for 2 nights and found that the perfect amount of time. We stayed at the Williamsburg Inn, again the perfect place - very comfortable room, we could walk to everything and for those time we didn't feel like walking the free shuttle stopped just a few hundred feet from the front door.

Agree that 2 days is enough for Williamsburg but you should also plan on seeing Yorktown, Jamestown and one of the nearby plantations - so 4 days for the entire area.

You can fill an entire week with activities in CW and the surrounding area. I recommend that you do a little research to see which buildings, museums and performances are high on your priority list and then check the "Week at a Glance" right before your visit to see when they are open or offered. Every building is not open every day. The only must-see I regularly recommend is a drive for the entire length of the parkway from Jamestown to Yorktown.

The Inn is very nice but pricey. The Lodge is a bit cheaper and also very nice and it shares amenities with the Inn. If neither fit within your budget, there are hotels from many of the hotel chains within a few miles of CW. Shuttle buses run throughout CW and back to the visitors' center and parking lot.

We very much liked the Williamsburg Inn, not least because of the excellent afternoon tea--and the comfortable room we had. I could easily spend 2 days in Colonial Williamsburg alone, but Williamsburg proper is also iteresting.

A tip: be sure to reserve well in advance for dinner at one of the taverns, which comes with gentle entertainment.

Agree with Waldo. Most of the buildings are reconstructions, the rest is pure hokum. (Note they advertise the availability of golf for Dad. CW is for kids.)

Well, at least I'm consistent. I really did find it disappointing and, alas, I don't golf. I liked the soap (Gilchrist & Soames).
