How many days in San Antonio?
 

I will be ending a trip in El Paso and would like to fly to San Antonio and spend a few days there. Are 2 full days enough or would 3 be better?

Two was good for me.I wouldn't have wanted another one. It was a lot of fun.

The alamo, seaworld and River Walk area.

We enjoyed 3.5 days a few years ago. In addition to the Alamo and River Walk, we went to the El Mercado area, Hemisfair Park, the Missions, and the Stock Show and Rodeo. San Antonio is one of my fave cities!

Hi Lolo, you don't mention what your interests in San Antonio are but generally speaking, if you want to see the Alamo, Riverwalk, etc. I suspect 2 full days would be sufficient.

I lived in SA and have visited. 2 days is plenty. Try to find places to eat off the Riverwalk!

We've been living in San Antonio for the past 17 years and politely disagree--there are some terrific restaurants on the Riverwalk.

We like to walk around, sightsee, shop. Of course we will see the Alamo and stay around the Riverwalk area.

El Marcado = shopping
missions = history and architecture. Remember the Alamo is just one of the 5 missions!

I would agree with 2 nights.
However, if the time is right, a drive from El Paso thorough the magnificent Big Bend National Park is a life changinging experience.

Lolo12, ChristieP already described the other two, but I believe Hemisfair Park was created for the World's Fair in the '60's. We went to the Tower of the Americas and saw a nice view of the city. Two days might suffice, but I think three would be nice for a leisurely pace.

Our favorite on the river is Pesca, seafood. You can either eat in the restaurant or outside along the river and this time of year is perfect for outside. I would definitely make reservations if you want to go. http://www.watermarkhotel.com/restaurant/restaurant.php Don't let the fact that it's a hotel restaurant dissuade you. There really are some hotels that have great restaurants, and this is one of them. Actually, if you approach from the river you have no sense that it is even connected with a hotel (probably by design because of the above bias) as that is all above it on street level.

Our favorite Mexican downtown is Rosario's on S Alamo St. It's not along the river, so outside your parameters, but it's far better than the best Mexican the river can offer. If you are staying on the Riverwalk, it's a longish walk but doable. It's great lunch spot where you'll find many many of the locals who work downtown enjoying it, or dinner, either one, but if you are walking, I'd do lunch.

I read somewhere that Pesca is considered the best seafood restaurant in San Antonio...we have yet to try it, though. Shame on me for omitting it. I agree with you on Rosarios and would have included it but I was coloring inside the lines. ;-)

9 of us went for dinner at Rosario's. Everybody loved it and at least a couple people said that is was the best Mexican they ever had. We were at the Hilton so it was only a 5 block walk. Thanks for the suggestions.
