How long to stay in NO
 

We have just booked a trip to NO for early Sept. How long should we stay? Curently our plans are for five days. We have been told that three maybe four days should be enough to see allthe sights. Any suggestions on what we should do? Also, we are staying at the Marriot on Canal st. Is this central and close to the sights. Thanks, Paul

This is actually a very good question! My wife and I have been to NO twice in the last 3 years and had a great time both times we were there. The second time tho, she mentioned that she thought the perfect NO vacation would be: 3 days and 6 nights!! The reasoning is that there is so very much to do and so many great places to eat that after a while the daytime things sort of seem run out.....You can certainly do most of what you'd like in three or four days, but more time there (especially if its your first time) could be used to venture out of NO and into some very interesting places nearby. The only suggestion that I have which is MUST DO is: Uglesich's Restaurant for lunch!! Just tell the proprietor to "Feed You", and he'll make up a great meal to what you might like....Have fun and enjoy the show!

Our stay was 7 days in September 2001 and wasn't long enough. I dont think you can run out of things to do even in 2 weeks. Don't miss the swamp airboat tours. It's so beautiful that time of year.

This will be my 3rd visit in June. Previous trips were 4-5 days. Not enough. This time will be 7 days. I think this will be more appropriate, and I won't feel so rushed. Plus 7 days of coffee and bengeits! :-)

No one answered your question on the location of the Marriott so I thought I'd let you know that it is in a very good location, easy walking distance to everything.

We were there for a week, but I think that four or five days would be just fine. We took a swamp tour, arranged through our hotel, and rented a car and toured a few plantations. <BR>

I am from New Orleans. You will be able to walk to almost all attractions from the Marriot. Be prepared for a place where everything is different. New Orleans is world famous for its crowd-pleasing parades and parties. There is dancing in the streets, music in the air, and festivals galore, all year round. AND lots of trash in the streets in the French Quarters.<BR>I especially like the streetcar ride (through the historical district) to the park and zoo, the street musicians around Jackson Square. (about 6 blocks north of the Marriot), and the riverboat cruises that serve an evening meal as you cruise. You can see the history in the French Quarters with its fabulous wrought-iron balconies. Tour the zoo, aquarium, imax, casinos, southern plantations, Jazzland theme park, or the fascinating above-ground cemeteries. <BR>Try the great spicy foods and oyster bars. But Please, don't leave the Big Easy without sipping cafe' au lait and getting powdered sugar on your face from Cafe du Monde on the riverfront. Sorry "Amber Lynn" but NO ONE from New Orleans says "French Quarters."

Five days will be perfect. I was there for 6 and we saw the cemeteries, plantations, did ghost tours, French Quarter walking tours, Garden District walking tours, shopped, Mardi Gras World, ate, drank, and found that by the end of the 5th day we had done everything and just relaxed on the 6th day.

I would like to recommend the D-Day Museum on Magazine Street in the Warehouse District. We were there last week and had planned to stay 3 hours, but ended up staying all day! There is so much to read and listen to. Of course, we are big WWII buffs so maybe other folks won't agree. If you want to eat in their coffee shop, I suggest you go early. We went in about 12:30 and there were only two ham sandwiches and a Greek salad left, and they don't make any more!
