How long to JFK??
 

We have a 7AM flight out of JFK on a Monday morning. We are going to book a car service but what time would we need to get picked up. We are staying in the Times Square Area I guess we have to be there 2 hours early.....so in MOnday morning traffic...how long will it take to get to JFK.

You shouldn't guess, you should know. Ask your airline and it will make a difference if it's domestic or int'l flight. That early it usually only takes ~ 40 mins. to JFK but I'd allow an hour just in case.

Agree that you need to check with your airline. Even if it's early the security lines can sometimes be horrendous - American especially often has insufficient staff and even if you're there in what seems like plenty of time the wait to check bags, check in and get through security can take forever.

Also, check with the car service. They will know if there is an accident or construction (sometimes done overnight and lasts after 6 am) that can hold things up.

I find that with most car services, I tell them what time my flight is supposed to depart and they usually tell me when they will pick me up. They have usually been accurate -they do this on a daily basis.

If it's a domestic flight I'd say you need to be there by 5:30 AM. I'd leave manhattan by 5 AM. The last two times I was in NYC -- staying 32nd and 5th ave - we left at 6:45 AM and each time we were at the airport in 25 minutes. There is very little traffic heading to the airport. We had carry on luggage - FYI.
