How long is the drive from Islamorada to Sanibel??

My husband will be attending a conference in Islamorada for 3 nights in February, 2007. I will be going with him. We would love to leave Islamorada and drive up to Sanibel to stay there for 3 nights. How many hours is the drive from Islamorada and is it worth it? If so, can you recommend a fabulous place to stay in Sanibel? Willing to splurge on a great place.

Mapquest maybe? It can be yours.

Mapquest is wrong! It assumes you'll be doing 60 mph for the entire 230 mile trip and cover it in 4 hours. I think 5 or 6 will be more likely. It's hard to say if Sanibel is "worth it" because I don't know what you like! I would rather splurge on the Ritz Carlton in Naples and cut at least an hour off the drive.

I agree with keymom. I couldn't think of a "splurge" place on Sanibel, but the Ritz at Naples is WONDERFUL!

I love Islamorada so much, I'd continue to hang there - but the Ritz would be worth the drive to the Gulf.

Remember in February you'll be at Florida's warmest place (the Keys) and even that doesn't rule out a cold snap. So if you go north to Sanibel you'll be trading in night time lows in the 60's for lows in the 50's. Have you ever been to Key West? You might consider going there and staying at a nice resort. Key West is so very different from the rest of the Keys (including Islamorada) that you will feel like you've gone to a whole different part of Florida.

I totally agree with Larry. The Keys--and Islamorada--are like being on a Caribbean island. The breezes are so relaxing. It is another place entirely.

Okay - you have me sold on Key West. What is a great place to stay there - something very nice.

I personally didn't say "Key West". We really enjoyed Islamorada without the extra 2+ hours of drive time.
