How long a drive: Washington, DC to Williamsburg

We are going to Williamsburg and surrounding area in November for a half week. Best flights are out of National in DC. How long a drive will we have if we do this from DC to Williamsburg?

Sorry - I should have said - I need driving straight through time - not during rush hour - no stopping for sightseeing. Would like to know from those who have done it!

3 hours but there is always something happening on 95,either north or south, to complicate matters

Take Scenic highway 17 south of Fredricksburg, Va, short cut!

I live near National Airport and drive down I95 and I64 to Williamsburg every weekend to visit my elderly mother. At a non-rush hour time (and assuming no accidents, etc.) it should take you no more than 2 1/2 hours. The drive on Rt. 17 is much more pleasant but will take at least 1 hour longer. You don't come to the turn-off to Rt. 17 until you are already about 1 hour down I95 and it does not go staight into Wmsbg., so you will have a bit of an extra drive at that end. I would stick with the I95-I64 route. But have you tried flights to the airports in Newport News-Wmsbg., Norfolk, or Richmond -- if you haven't, all would be closer.

We did the drive last year, it took about 3 hours. It is the same scenery for the entire trip, forest on both sides with no variance except exit roads...extremely boring! Bring a good book! :)
