how is the venetian?

have reservations at the Venetian for 4th of July week, want to know comments? Also have Sat and sun open for hotel choice and do not want to spend a ton since splurging on a suite at Venetian, Help?

4th of July weekend, yikes!! It's a very crowded weekend in Vegas. Personally, I would not recomend the Venetian. Coming to Vegas in the peak of the summer and they have one of the worst swimming pools, small, dull, and boring. For the money your going to be spending on a hotel room, go to the Mirage or Bellagio. You can't make a mistake with those two hotels

Can anyone comment on the restaurants in the Venetian?

liz May 15th, 2000 01:41 PM

Ditto on thee Venetian- good to visit the canal shops- good restaraunts- but overall especeially in summer go for bellagio or Mandalay bay which both have great pool areas.Venetians pool is pathetic!!

We ate at Emerils restraunt-name escapes me-Delmonicos? it was very good-cesar salad very average. Their upscale Cheesecake factory-name also escapes me was very good- huge portions--my husband is italian and can pack in pasta and we still could have spllit meals!!

I just got back from the Flamingo. By far the best pools but they are not heated. That's fine in the summer though. Beautiful gardens, little water slides and a couple of hot tubs as well. I lost count of the number of pools but a couple of very large ones and several small ones plus a kiddies wading pool.

The Venetian is awesome and a great place to spend a full 12 hour day but I the pool doesn't look like much.
Hi ...
On another topic in this web site, I've asked for help with my honeymoon ...

I'm planning on staying at the Venetian in Las Vegas for 3 nights .... I'm slightly confused ... on this site people say it only has 1 pool ... yet on their own web site they say they have 3 ...
Also people say the pool is small & boring ... is it me, but it looks huge in the picture on their web site ... please remember that I'm from England so maybe the pool according USA standards, but it looks huge to my standards ....

Confused ....

Mark

Mark:

I can't comment on the pool at the Venetian as I am not familiar with it. However you have to put things into perspective. Some of the Hotels in Las Vegas have spectacular pools. Like the other poster said, the Flamingo Hilton has several pools linked together with slides and waterfalls. The Mandalay Bay has a wave beach, etc.

Have I got a story for you on the Venetian...long post, but may amuse you.

Stayed there november 1999. Nice rooms. However, I couldn't help but notice the shrill whistle of what sounded like a boiling teapot.

Apparently, on windy days, the hotel makes that noise. The windows have vents along the bottom, and when the wind comes through, it whistles. You can hear it echo througout the floors, and it makes noise coming under your doors as well.

I called the front desk lady, who apologized and suggested I stuff towels underneath the doors and on the window sills.

I couldn't help but laugh as I shoved towels everywhere at this "luxury" resort. But it did stop the whistling.

But WAIT, there's more.

The next day I went out and about. When I came back to my room (mind you, I am a female and was alone) the maid had cleaned my room. I thought all was well but FROZE when I saw my bed.

On my bed was a dirty, dingy pair of men's tighty-whities!!!

My first thought was OH MY GOD, there's an intruder in here, and he's naked in the shower!

After my initial heart attack, I realized the the maid found it and left it for me.

I called down to the front desk and said, "I know this is a luxury resort hotel, but really now, a mint on my pillow would have been enough. Do you guys not do that anymore? Just dirty underwear for guests, eh?"

The front desk person apologized profusely, but I started to find it so funny, I couldn't stop laughing.

They sent the maid to get it. The maid was the same one who left it there. She apologized left and right in broken English, and explained that she found it wedged between the bed and the night table (Oh nice, it was there the whole night!) because the maid frombefore didn't do a thorough job cleaning, and didn't know if she should through it away or leave it since she didn't know if it belonged to the current guest.

I still couldn't stop laughing, and soon the maid was laughing hysterically too. She took the undies with two fingers and left.

Management did end up comping me $75 in room service for my surprise present.

As far as the pool goes, it does really, really suck. The "three" pools are all in the same area, and I never saw sunlight in the pool areas because of the side of the hotel they were on.

However, the Venetian does have, ahem, great turndown service. :)

Stayed at venetian in April. I agree with all comments on the pool. It is a big let down. Would recomend bellagio or mirage. I am staying in vegas july 4th week and am trying mandaly bay. Heard it has a great pool. Venetian is a beautiful hotel, great restaurants and night club. But for july you want a good pool.

This is for Kristian, your story was quite amusing. Being a frequent traveler one must have a sense of humor if not, you'll just return home with nothing but memorable complaints. I trust that you enjoyed your overall stay in Vegas. Thanks for making me laugh.

I travel frequently. My last visit to Las Vegas was in May of 99. The Venetian is over rated. I agree with the posts on the Flamingo Hilton.

Also - the best value for the money is away from the strip. The Golden Nugget downtown is a 5-star hotel, completely renovated, and they offer credits. Give them a try. It is a beautiful hotel and one of the best buffets in town.

Alert: I had a terrible experience at both Emeril Lagasse restaurants, especially Delmonico at the Venetian. Extremely overpriced, and the service was unsatisfactory.

I think the Venetian is getting somewhat of a bad rap. While I agree that the pool was disappointing, the rest of the hotel is excellent. I stayed there several months ago and wouldn't hesitate to go back. Where else are you guaranteed a suite? I enjoyed the rooms, the look of the hotel, the casino, and I had no problems with the service. The Chinese restaurant (can't be sure but I think the name was Royal Star) was excellent.

Hopefully, the Venetian management will see all of the complaints about its pool and takea some action to correct the situation.

As far as your questions about less expensive properties for Saturday and Sunday, you might want to try Flamingo Hilton, Bally's, NYNY, Monte Carlo, or Tropicana(even cheaper ones would be Excalibur and Circus Circus, but I wouldn't recommend either).
kristian Jun 9th, 2000 02:40 PM

Lynn: Yes, I find humor in pretty much everything. Glad that you enjoyed the story. It's actually only the tip of the iceberg...it was a little getaway trip that I did alone, and too many funny things happened for me to mention. (Including pierced-nippled massage guy...)

But you're absolutely correct...bad things are bound to happen. One can either stress out and shave years off one's life, or one can look at it with humor and have dazzlingly funny stories to tell at parties...
