How is Spirit Airlines?

Got a great rate for Chicago to Orlando ($176!) for last minute cruise at the end of July - never flown these guys - are they any good? Thanks for any input.

We flew them from Atlantic City to Detroit last year. The plane was a very old MD-80 but for a short flight it was fine.

We take Spirit all the time out of Atlantic City to Myrtle Beach. They are a no-frills airline, but I have found them to be reliable and pretty much on time, and their rates are good.

Only problem would be if the plane broke down or something happened and you missed your cruise. By not taking the cruise ship transportation, you are responsible if you missed the ship. You may want to look into trip insurance. ((b))

I flew them to Denver in January. Splurge at the counter and get the plus seats for 25 dollars. I would just fly down the day before the cruise just in case and get a hotel on hotwire or priceline with the savings.

No frills service, but fine. I flew them from LA to Myrtle Beach. Connection times sucked, but you couldn't beat the price.

this was just asked... if you want to see the replies, do a search for Spirit.

There were about 11 replies, I think, and all were positive, mine included.

Spirit is a good economical choice to fly with. Please be aware that the space aboard the plane is not cozy especially if there are too many luggages lying around. I took Spirit to Fort Lauderdale and must commend that their departure and arrival times were great. No lateness. So basically if you're looking for a cheap, reasonable fare Spirit is definitely a good option.

I've flown Spirit for 9 years. They are doing well and can afford better planes now and have been adding flights not subtracting like the big airlines.

When I first flew them I got on one plane and each bank of seats was a different fabric. Some from Delta, some from America, etc. etc. They have spent money where it counted: on maintenance and crew. The seats are tight in coach, but they are on all the airlines now.
