How is Northern Georgia?

Dh and I are thinking of perhaps taking a small 4 night getaway near 4th of July. We are looking for pet-friendly cabins (Rufus Joe, our mutt, is sick of being left at home while we leave for Europe vacations!). I found some lovely cabins in northern Georgia, near Blue Ridge, but to tell you the truth I know very little about the area. We are looking for basically a relaxing getaway where we can hike and enjoy the outdoors. We would be coming from St. Louis, and would drive. Any thoughts on this area?

Thanks!
Tracy

I have driven through the area, and I think it's nice. Relatively quiet, river gorges for rafting, etc.

But it's still pretty far from St. Louis. I would think you can find something similar in the Ozarks.

Rufus Joe? That's a wonderful name! He must be quite a guy.

We go to the North Georgia mountains frequently, and we even ended up purchasing retirement property there.
I think you would really love it.
I have a cabin rental place for you.

Thanks rkkwan for your reply. To be honest we are kind of tired of the Ozarks. I have to go to the Lake of the Ozarks every year for a work retreat, and we both despise Branson so that's out. We were hoping for something a little different. We went to Tennessee a few years ago and while we loved Smoky Mountain National Park, we hated Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and want to get away from that type of area. We are also considering possibly the Ozarks in Arkansas, but I'm having problems finding doggie friendly cabins.

LOL cmcfong! About three days after we adopted him we still had not come up with a name. My father in law jokingily said Rufus and we laughed about it, but for some reason it stuck. He's a german shephard/lab mix but he looks like a scrawny black lab. We added the "Joe" to the end because it sounded even funnier. He's my baby and we love taking him with us.

tcapp, that was exactly the website that we used to find the places that interest us! They have quite a few pet-friendly cabins to choose from, and they all look very nice. I'm glad to see the referral!

It sounds just about right, Tracy.

I have long had the black bear cabins website bookmarked for a future trip. Be sure and post a report.

It's very quiet in Blue Ridge, although it'll probably be busier than usual around the Fourth (being a long weekend). Get a copy of "Hiking Trails of North Georgia" by Tim Homan if you like to hike. Also, make sure to drive over to Amicalola Falls. Have fun.
