How is flying on Trans Air?
Have never flow on this Airline - looking to hear about them. Thanks
You mean Air Tran? I found it very similar to Southwest, but a larger plane and I had a seat assignment ahead of time.On time, friendly crew.Would do it again.Baggage right there for me.
AirTran's planes (mostly 717s) are usually smaller than Southwest's 737s, not larger.
I think the original poster probably means American Trans Air (ATA). |
The "Trans Air" reference is unclear. I didn't think of AirTran at first, I thought of America Trans Air (ATA), the bankrupt Midwest low-cost carrier. Where are you located, and between which airports will you be traveling? AirTran primarily travels the southern US, with multi-stop flights to Los Angeles (their regional jets can't make an Atlanta-LA flight nonstop).

My flight was on an Airbus, A320.Perhaps they were leasing short term.
Yep, BeachBoi flew AirTran. They briefly leased some Airbuses for coast-to-coast flights, before they decided to do multi-stop flights with their 717s. Now that I think of it, AirTran is a Florida-based airline, so I think those were MIA-LAX flights.
ATA has always has Lockheed (L-1011) or Boeing (737, 757) metal, if I'm not mistaken. |
Have never been on Southwest, but I enjoyed our Air Tran from Boston to Atlanta, great service and friendly service people. Did one flight on Virgin to London and we had the stewardesses from hell I swear. bTW if you get a chance to fly charter Icelandic Air...go for it....
AirTran placed an order for 30 brand new 737s. Boeing has delivered 2 so far. They don't fly the leased Airbus 320s anymore.
I also found Air Tran to be very much like Southwest. Great no frills airline for shorter flights. Their check-in was the speediest I've ever encountered. I was literally done less than two minutes after walking up to the counter. None of that clickety click, clickety click, clickety click for a what seems like a half hour with other airlines.
My daughter and I have taken AirTran several times between Boston and BWI and enjoyed it. You can get your boarding pass, including seat assignment, online anytime within 24 hours before your flight. If you're not checking anything you're all set to head for the gate and if you are, that will add a whole 2 minutes to your trip, just as Statia said.
While I was waiting for my last flight, they asked whether anyone was interested in upgrading to Business Class for $35. IIRC, there were no takers; we're a bargain-oriented bunch! |
