How hot is September in Florida?
 

I have an opportunity to go to Florida and stay on the ocean near Jacksonville beach! Lucky me! However ... I do not handle heat and humidity well. I'm fair skinned with dark hair and prone to heat exhaustion. Can anyone suggest what standard temperatures and humidity would be like in September. Does the ocean breeze really help alot? I'd love to go but not if I'm going to be terribly uncomfortable.

Hello Kelly, <BR> We live in England and travel to Florida every year, we love it there. The last couple of years we have been in September/October. I would say first of all that it would be a little cooler on the coast than say in Orlando.The ocean breeze does help. <BR>The overall temperature depends on which part of the month you are visiting. I would estimate that the temp. for early through mid. Sept. would average at 87 degrees (at the hottest time of the day), towards the end of Sept. average 83 degrees. <BR>The humidity should not be too bad. <BR>My wife is also prone to heat exhaustion which is why we do not travel in June,July or August. <BR>I think you will be alright providing you take the necessary precautions, drink plenty of fluids(water is best),eat meals at regular times and never sit out in the sun if you are really hungry. Believe me the last thing you should do is sunbathe if you have not eaten for a lengthy period of time. My wife was taken ill on our Honeymoon in Miami with sun-stroke after sunbathing for 2 hours in 95 degree heat ,without eating any breakfast , we would never do that again. <BR>Don't worry though! this was in June whenit is far too hot. <BR>

<BR>Both my adult children live in <BR>North Miami beach. I fly down <BR>from N.Y. once a month. It is <BR>very hot from late May to <BR>beginning October. Cooler at <BR>beach but it is a warm <BR>breeze.Check hurricane season <BR>too.I would suggest you contact a <BR>travel agent.Also, it is humid.

We were in Sannibel last September and it was extremely hot and humid.

<BR>I live in Daytona Beach which is a little over an hour south of Jacksonville. August and September are the hottest months of the year down here but I honestly don't think it is any hotter here than in many northern states. The heat and humidity just lasts longer. The plus side is being near the ocean. It is much nicer along the coast than say visiting 30 miles inland. Another nice part of living here is that everyplace has central air-conditioning. I have lived here for over 17 years and I love it!

Being a native, I have noticed that most years you can actually feel a difference in the temperature the first week of October. That means it's only a bit cooler tho. Being near the beach will make it cooler because of the breeze. And I remember many Christmas days wearing shorts, so ya never know.

Kelly, <BR> <BR>Being a Florida native, the end of July, Aug., and Sept. are usually Florida's hottest months. Temperatures are usually in the high 90's with the humidity in the 80-90 range. Being on the ocean will have a warm constant breeze which does help. Sometimes, you get the late afternoon thunderstorms which cool down the temperature. Make sure you bring a GOOD sunscreen, hat, and polorized sunglasses. Hope you enjoy your stay if you decide to come.
