How hot is Philly in the summer?
My wife and I are thinking about going to Philadelphia for several days in early June. Our only concern is for the heat. We are from Florida and looking for at least a moderate escape. Can anyone give us a guide as to what the general climate in early summer is like?

I lived in Philadelphia for 15 years,, early June generally is not bad, but you never know,,,, clearly avoid July and August. Avg. High Temp is probably about 70's. I would say the earlier in June, the better your chances for cooler less humid weather. Have a good time. You may want to check the Philadelphia web sight,, be sure not to go when they have certain festivals, can be mobbed.

As they say, it's not the heat it's the humidity. We sit in a geographical bowl between the ocean, the mountains and two rivers. It makes for (generally) mild winters and very warm summers. Early June should not be bad. According to the Weather Channel website, our average high in June is 81, average low is 64, average precip is 3.29 in. The highest recorded temperature for Philadelphia in June is 100 (1994), the lowest 44 (1977).

I agree with the previous posters that early June should be fine. The most humid part of the summer in Philly is from Mid July to the end of August.

Listen to them!
We were there last spring, it was chilly but beautiful, we were able to walk all over the city. I was there in Aug a long time ago, I thought I would die..I was melting the entire day..heat, humidity, skinny feet turned into fat feet..don't go in August :) |
Well, you could check averages for your dates at www.weather.com
It could, however, be warmer or cooler than usual. For sure, it will be way cooler in Philadelphia than in Florida, no matter when you go. |
Too darn hot (as the song says. . . ). But early June is usually quite pleasant and a lot of the garden areas around the city (e.g. the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum) will be in bloom. |
