How hard is it to get a reservation at NOBU New York?
 

Okay, is there any chance we could get a seating for the month of June? How far in advance should we try to make reservations? I don't know anything about New York dining. Nobu is on the "to do" list. Thanks for any input.

I would call now and find out how far in advance you need to call.Some resturants require you to call one month to the day and when you call they offer the 10:30 seating which will probably be fun at Nobu.They have a more casual resturant but all the buzz is in the main resturant

Thanks for the response Cindymal. Just tried open-table and they don't appear to take res. for Nobu, but they do for Lotus which was another resturant I wanted to try. Will look into Zagats and Gagdot in the morning. Thanks again.

30 days out. Or, go early. If you go for a 6 pm dinner and out by 8 pm, you could probably just walk in. It is really worth it. Beautiful restaurant and amazing food. I love the miso cod wrapped in bib lettuce leaves and the spicy shrimp. Nobu can be reasonably priced if you don't order sushi (really jacks up the tab). And since you can get great sushi at a dozen other less expensive places in the city (Tatany, Japonica), still to the creative dishes.

When the previous poster said 30 days out, it's exactly 30 days out. The line opens at 10:00AM, if I remember correctly. Be ready to speed dial at 9:55. You'll most likely only get busy signals and be disappointed so expect the worst. You can always go to Next Door Nobu, literally next door, where it's a similar menu and a walk-in only policy. There are always open tables at 6:00 but I've never seen them allow anyone to use them because they're holding them for 7 and 8:00 reservations, no harm in trying. If you're really into sushi, you can try Tomoe or Sushi of Gari. For other items, Sushi Samba has a slightly similar menu to Nobu - it has the same South American/Japanese fusion idea, a bit on the young/trendy side. There are 2 Sushi Samba's, the one on 7th has roof top seating in the summer so it might be nice while your there. There's another one on Park. Good luck with Nobu, it's one of my favorites. Hopefully you'll luck out.

I have had ZERO luck getting anybody on the phone at Nobu, except when they called to tell me you cannot fax in a reservation request and then preceded to tell me no, I couldn't ask her for one "now that I have you on the phone".

However, i walked right in at 5:45 as were others....if you can stand to eat that early.

DOn't order the traditional sushi...its not special.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I will try calling 30 days out (hopefully the repeat dial on my phone will work for a # in NY) and if not successful we will try an early walk in. We generally eat early anyways. Not big sushi eaters thankfully :) Again, thanks for the great advice.

When we were in NYC, we asked the concierge at our hotel to get reservations at Nobu for us, and he did. I think I asked about 2 months out, he said he'd make a note to call exactly 30 days out, and he succeeded, for 9pm on a Friday, too. Of course, we tipped him! But if your hotel has a proper concierge, I'd go that route, b/c it's so much easier. Good luck!

We went at 5:45 and took a table at Nobu Next Door--the overflow restaurant. Then we asked if we could perhaps be seated at Nobu. We were (basically 6PM). We had a sumptious tasting menu, were not rushed at all, had incredible service and left about 8PM. Next time I will just get the cod but the tasting menu was memorable in taste and imagery--beautiful on the plate.
