We booked our July 03(just got back)last Oct. I found a great deal on Expedia and couldn't pass it up. Happy to say I kept checking and didn't find a deal as good as I got at that time.
So I guess if you know where you want to go keep checking through the internet, AAA, Travel agent, etc to get the best deal because you have time.

We booked our trip for this Christmas in February. After I booked I kept watching to see if the airfare would go down but since then they have gone up so I'm feeling pretty good about my decision. I'm now looking at booking for March 04.

I just booked July 04.I wanted to be sure of getting a condo where I wanted to be - the Whaler. You may not have to book so far ahead with hotels.

This is for Barbara- We have booked a Condo at the Whaler for March 04. Found thru VRBO. Did you go thru VRBO? Have you stayed there before? What is it like? We have been twice and love Kaanapali. Stayed at the Sheraton and Alii Condos before. Checked out the outside of the Whaler and thought it was closer to Blackrock and better beach than the Alii. What do you think? Thanks for your time.

Riggsie again! Forgot to say - we have only booked our Condo at the Whaler. We paid deposit now and balance 30 days before. Do you think we should be purchasing airfare/car now? I hope to find good deal with Pleasant for fly/drive package. We only have to pay deposit with them and balance 30 days before also. Thanks to anyone who comments!

riggsie, we have not stayed at the Whaler before, but the location is perfect for this particular trip. I found the condo we are renting - from the owner direct - after doing many searches on google.

Barbara, when you get to the Whaler check the bulletin board by the elevators on the parking garage level. There is a list posted on the bulletin board of the names of many owners who rent direct that you will not find on the internet.
