How far from Charlotte to Charleston, and where park free in Charleston?
We will be driving from Charlotte to Charleston on Oct. 2nd to spend three nights. Can you tell us how long that trip should take? We will be staying at the beach but then drive into Charleston. Is there any free or reduced fee parking in Charleston? Thanks.

The distance is about 210 miles, and it takes about 3 1/2-4 hours of driving.
The City of Charleston operates parking lots:

Time is about right. Easy basically boring drive. I wonder why you would expect free parking in a city? You can park at the vistior's center and take the trolley the few blocks to the Historic district.

It will take you closer to 4 hours to get out to the beach. Which beach are you staying on? If Sullivan's or Isle of Palms, a fun alternative to driving into the city is to take the water taxi from Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant to the historic district (docks just south of the aquarium). $8 r/t per person (kids under 5 free) and free parking at Patriots Point.
