How far from Bush Gardens to Washington DC?
We were thinking next year we would like to take the kids to Washington but also to a theme park such as Bush Gardens. Is Bush Gardens very far and is the traffic bad. If we were to fly into Virginia what airport is the closest to Bush Gardens and is there motels near by? We were thinking next April.

Yahoo says it is 158 miles from D.C. to Williamsburg, VA which is right at Busch Gardens. 3:10 for driving time if you go via Richmond. I live in NC and have been to both but have not driven between them. This sounds about right to me. I would think, depending on what time of day you go, the traffic could be very heavy or not too bad. I believe rush hour around Washington would not be the time to head out. You may have three options for airports: Newport News-Williamsburg is the closest, Norfolk is not much over an hour away, and Richmond shouldn't be more than 1 1/2 hours away.

It's about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive, but with DC Metro traffic, you can never be sure. Schedule 3 hours.

You are about three hours. Traffic in the DC area is a nightmare, but I suggest that you head to Williamsburg via the back roads. Take 301 south and Rt. 17 south. You will find this to be a very pleasant way to travel to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. I always stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Rates are usually good, they have a complementary continental breakfast and the rooms are clean. It's close to the Restored area in Williamsburg and not far from the theme park (the one I stay at is across from the Cracker Barrel Restaurant). Depending where you are travelling from you may want to look into Baltimore/Washington International Airport. It's a little further to Willamsburg, but sometimes you can get some very good rates. Add about an hour if travelling to BWI. Good Luck and enjoy your trip. <BR>

There's a pretty good amusement park just outside of Washington in Maryland - Six Flags America. Good roller coasters and a very nice water park for those muggy summer days in DC. A LOT closer than Busch Gardens, but you'd miss Williamsburg.
