Well, both of your access areas to the city from Sonoma are gridlock during the weekday rush hour -- Golden Gate bridge or Bay Bridge.

I'd leave no later than 7 am.

Mr, R5 does part of this commute
4 days a week. He says you will find the WORST of the congestion between the 1st Petaluma exit and the Central San Rafael exit-a very bad slog at 7AM. He advises you leave at 6AM for smooth sailing and no later than 6:30 AM.

Have a tea/coffee if you can prior to your 9AM appt.

Oh sorry, he commutes via Hwy 101.
IME,I don't know anyone here who would go to SF from Sonoma County via the Bay Bridge.

I agree, no later than 6:30 AM.

And 1600 Divisadero is nowhere near Lombard St. It's near Sutter. Post and Geary Streets.

And have you confirmed w/ the hospital that you can use the p/lot across the street? I know they have gone back and forth with letting patients use it...

The directions the UCSF brochure gives for directions is
"bad'.."Turn right off of Lombard onto Divisadero"
great if you like streets that go UP then DOWN--stop sign at crest of each street..
there must be a better route.?
how about off GG bridge to right on 19th --are left turns allowed at Sutter or even Geary??
Parking garage across street form Mt. Z is available for a max of $ 20 per day.....
Time frame--I plan on leaving home by 5;30 because I am so compulsive.
Getting an appt. with these specialists takes weeks and if you are late--thay don't accept "caught in traffic" -just rechedule
I'll find a place to have breakfast when I get there...
At least I know where the Starbucks is located by the hospital...

yep, 19th av, then right.

I think you can make lefts at certain intersections on geary but I'm not sure Diviz is one of them. if you make the left at Stanyan you can then get to Sutter then to Diviz.

Good luck with your specialist.

Had to leave from Napa. Left at 5:35 AM , drove into garage across from hospital at 6:45.
down 19 th was good idea--no left turn on Geary so went one block and did 2 right turns to get on Geary..almost lost it Geary tunnel!! but got onto Baker so I could get to Sutter to turn into garage...
I can understand why the hospital directions are "Lombard -right on Divisadero" It is a staight shot that out of towners could follow easier. Except the steep hills and stop signs at top ...
anyway, thanks for help..As usual Fodorites come through...
