How Early Should I Book Kauai?

Hi, we will be travelling from Los Angeles to Kauai for our anniversary in April 2010.

We are going to book a package, and I am curious how far in advance should I book to get the best price?
I'm reluctant to book now for fear the rates will go down or the flight times will change.

Thanks!

just got back from a week in Kauai with a package on expedia and stayed at the Grand Hyatt..we booked 2 weeks before the trip..not usually or motus operandi but rates were extremely high from San Diego to LIH..
I saved over $600 per person by waiting and literally the next day went up that much.
I would wait till early next year and just keep on monitoring rates..things do seem to drop at midnight on Tues/Wed. on travel websites.
We really enjoyed our suite at the Grand Hyatt and hopefully by then they will have renovated the rooms up to more of a 5* but everything else was top notch.
St. Regis will be open then too.

2 weeks in advance - you're bolder than I am!
We will also be staying at the Hyatt, and I will follow your advice to start monitoring prices in Jan.

wife was freaking..its usually way more in advance than 2 weeks.
make sure you tell the front desk that its your anniversary..they will usually upgrade and send a nice bottle of champagne.
we asked for the free brunch coupons and they happily obliged..excellent buffet and kept us full till dinner..plus it saved $56 for two a day!
Gorgeous property and they took such good care of us..
I can't imagine staying anywhere else.
Love the Grand Hyatt Kauai!

I, too, usually book way in advance, but I've seen some really great last minute deals to Hawaii (all islands) lately-most likely due to the economy and low occupancy. We're going in May and I will be waiting to book until the Spring.

Early April might go up(Easter), but you are safe pricing later April for awhile.

"Wife was freaking..." I'll bet! It must have been a rush to score like that at the last miunte.

Our 10 year anniversary is on the 15th, and I have promised that we will have our toes in the sand on that day.
Easter is on the 4th, and I'm hoping that Kauai isn't a big Spring Break destination due to the cost and distance from the mainland.
This is going to be a long five and a half months!
