To the OP:

Just use Priceline, it doesn't really matter too much anyway, and Priceline usually lands you in a considerably better hotel than your typical budget would have garnered.

Fact is that the bottom line for those who use Priceline isn't any true "(dollar) savings"... Priceline is more likely to land $80-a-night vacationers in $140-a-night rooms.

SO, if your budget happens to be $99 per night, and you are used to the accommodations that buys, then what are your chances of feeling too very wrong when landing a $175-per-night place for your $99 offered?


(on top of that, Priceline saves you from having to choose!)

I agree that seasoned travelers generally have more basis for comparison. At the price range I'm in, rooms are almost always smaller in Europe, but it's to be expected.
Or some buildings are quite old and hot water is not quite as plentiful as a new Hilton here in the US.

That said, some of us rarely post if we don't have anything original to add. So, the amount of posts don't always do justice toward one's level of travel experience.

Sorry, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about the "seasoning" and whether or not writing a bunch of reviews makes them smarter or more discerning....

but here's a perfect example from a very recent review on TripAdvisor from soneone who claims to have "stayed in five star hotels all over the world.." (seasoned traveler????)

Her comments, among others:

"The bed was huge..." Now, are we talking about a bed bigger than king size?

"The bathroom was incredible..." What does that mean?
