How does Greenfield Village compare to Williamsburg?
Our high school group is going to Detroit and planning our free day there. Many of the students have been to Williamsburg as part of their 8th grade trip to DC. Are the 2 sites pretty similiar?

I've been to both, and they're quite different. Colonial Williamsburg is a re-creation of the town in the 1700s; nothing outside of that era (time or place) is there. Greenfield Village is a collection of historical buildings, like the Wright Brothers' bike shop. There is no attempt to maintain continuity in either time or place.

I agree with PaulRabe. Greenfield and Williamsburg are totally different.
What I like about Greenfield Village is the focus on changes in technology. You can see early cars, Edison's discoveries, pottery, weaving, glassblowing, etc. They have a section of homes from different locations and time periods. In addition, they completed a major renovation about a year ago. It is much easier to move around the village. Your group will love it. |
Thanks!
The group meets tonight and I wanted to give them clear information-which I didn't have until now! |
I'm doing the Rouge Factory Tour in a few weeks. Anybody done that?
