Suzie,

That reminds me of the time I developed some film via the mail. The pictures that were returned to me were of someone's wedding! These were obviously important photos because they were posed shots of the couple, wedding party etc. I called the company immediately and sent them back. They never did find my photos and I've often wondered if that poor couple ever got their pictures.

Ten years ago 10 ladies from my college sorority took a reunion cruise. The first stop was the cruiseline's private island and we found a wallet with about $120 cash. It was dark navy with the name written on the outside with a sharpie pen. We called the purser and reported finding it but we would not take it to lost and found because we had no idea if the cash would find its way back to the owner. We asked them to put the owner in touch with us to ID the wallet. The purser searched the guest roster and found no record of a guest by that name or anything close to it. By the end of the cruise we had no idea what we should do with the wallet and the purser told us to handle it however we wanted. So we decided to use it to buy bingo cards (we're a boring group of women huh!?). We figured if it was the wrong thing to do we'd lose all the money. Well, one of us won the superjackpot (over $1,200). That really sent us into a dilemna. We decided to donate the money to our sorority's national organization.

So cool that you are trying to find the owner! Mr.R5 has a theory on this tho'-
you lose something, never see it again and then something else turns up in it's place. May or may not be the same/similar item. Kind of like a
'Cosmic replacement'. Example: About 2 years ago we (me) left a brand new
Canon Sure Shot camera on the last flight in to Tucson that eve. Upon unpacking I
announce my loss (sob) and immediately call the airline. Well, of course nothing
and nobody is around until the AM-short story-no one turns it in-bye-bye.
Three months later we are walking on the beach in Pt. Reyes celebrating a friends b'day and someone says "Didn't
we bring a camera?"
"No?!" someone replies. When, at the edge of the surfline I spot what looks like a black wedgie slide (sandal). My closer inspection reveals a Canon Elph
camera in a leather black case with about 20 pics left. Well we ask everyone we meet on the way back if they lost a camera (kept in a pocket
so they would have to describe it). No takers. We run an add in lost and found.
Nadda. So, does his theory work? :))

jacketwatch, c'est la vie (say-lah-vee. So it is, so let it happen).

Sorry, years of French lessons (oh why didn't I take Latin?) make me anal.

Razzledazzle-

DDD at UT!

Ranger Jun 4th, 2004 06:58 PM

OK, what would you do in this case??
Was driving to the coast and spotted a large cardboard box in the ditch. Something made me turn around and go back and check it out. Turned out to be a brand new 10x12 White Stag tent. Tags still attached. Thru it in the back of my truck and off I went.

Tennessee of course! Class of '81--Yikes!

The "girls" get together once about every two years in different parts of the country. The cruise was the largest gathering to date. It's hard to coordinate our calendars at this stage of life!

Very, very small world.

Marvelous! It's late enough that I hope we haven't hijacked this thread
(Sorry Suzie, it's just such a neat treat !) My PC is planning a GTG when the last one turns "49"-talk about
Yikes !!!
Oh, well, bring on the red hats! :)

I appreciate all your attempts to find new ways to find the owner. We did contact the camera comapny but they didn't register it. It is really expensive not just marginally. We all oooha and aaaahd until we started looking at the pics and now we feel like we know this family. Don't think we could ever in good conscience us the camera.

It's great that you can share your own lost and found tales too. DD has her own lost tale. Finally saved up for the perfect Vans and walking into the mall her bossy mom told her to "Put that money in your pocket" Poor thing, the money popped out of her pocket and was no where to be found when we reached the store only about 100 steps later. Saddest story ever. Teary 10 year old. Crabby mom.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Guess you didn't hear about the "Red Hat Scandal" here in FL! One of the ladies was caught on video in a museum gift shop pocketing a wrist watch. She turned herself in when the video ran on the news.

Come on, at least take off the red hat before you pocket the loot--you never know who might be watching!

This is a simple thing, but several years ago I started putting one of those return address stickers that come in the mail all the time on my camera, my cell phone, etc.

So far I haven't needed them, but if I ever do ...

And I know I'm certainly capable of losing/leaving things!

Go Travel: No sweat. Actually thanks for the correction. I too took Latin. :-)

jacketwatch Jun 5th, 2004 07:30 AM

Oops! I meant I took Latin, not I too.

Looks like we found the owners! Thanks to the regional rental manager at Enterprise we'll soon return the camera. Perserverence pays off!

Maggi Jun 7th, 2004 02:28 PM

I'm sure the owners are thrilled. Hope they realize how lucky they are there are still honest people around!

benj Jun 8th, 2004 05:36 AM

Good for you! I know this will help them have positive memories of their trip. Love happy endings!

GoTravel Jun 8th, 2004 06:48 AM

You should print out this thread and send it to the owners with the camera.

JohnD Jun 8th, 2004 06:56 AM

Agree with Go about sending the thread/((P)), unfortunately no good deed goes unpunished.:S-

Suzie Jun 8th, 2004 07:13 AM

LOL Yeah John, I am kind of afraid of that!!! ;) But just this am I went to get my coffee and lost a dime on my way down to the cafeteria. A coworker said "let me get that" even after the gal at the cash register agreed to let me return with the dime later. So I feel my Karma is ok for now. Mybe things won't go bad until the camera is in the owner's hands. :O
