How do these rates sound for New Orleans in June?

Hi again. I think if it's your honeymoon, especially your honeymoon, that you should stay IN the french quarter, as it's the safest. Although the crime rate in New Orleans is extremely high, (as in most large cities) you probably would be much better off on one of the hotels IN the Quarter. As I posted before, we stayed at Richelieu which is on Chartres, and that's actually getting very close to the "border" of the Quarter. On my first trip to N.O. in '88, I stayed downtown at the Howard Johnson's and I asked the hotel staff if they thought it would be safe for me to venture out of the hotel a couple of blocks, and the person at the front desk said, "Let me put it to you this way, ma'am, a lady
just got mugged RIGHT OUTSIDE the hotel this afternoon." And that was my first lesson that one should ALWAYS take a taxicab when in doubt (if you stay outside the quarter.) And at night, by all means, don't risk it. I don't mean
to put fear into you. This can happen in any city, really, but in New Orleans
it seems to be prevalent everytime I've gone, so just be safe and spend a little extra and stay IN THE FRENCH QUARTER. Cut down on those little party favors for your wedding and take the extra money and have a nicer hotel.

To Brian,
Actually we drink the typical rum & coke, jack & coke drinks. The price of $7 was pretty standard. I agree that food and drink prices in New Orleans are normal for a big city. Really I just wanted to point out that if Karen's hotel is only in the $100 - $125 range she might not expect higher priced drinks. Maybe I just don't shop around enough but I think if Karen can find a nice hotel in New Orleans for under $125 she's in luck. Let's face it even in Atlanta I pay $170 or more for a room at the Hilton.
I should mention that the benefit of the higher priced drinks is No Cover.

Actually, I'm used to paying $5-6 for a drink, so $7 doesn't seem all that outrageous to me. Pittsburgh is a relatively expensive city for nightlife, considering that it is not a large metropolitan area. FH and I are not really big drinkers, anyway...I'd be satisfied with one or two good drinks per night out. Especially on our honeymoon.
Also, the Hilton here in Pittsburgh is around $170 per night as well. That is definitely not what I'm looking for...I'd like something with a little more character. We're pretty young and the Hilton is a little stuffy for us, no disrespect intended.
I suppose I have made it sound like we are on a tight a budget in my previous posts. That's not the case at all. We HAVE overspent for our wedding, and as a result, I'm trying to be a bit frugal on the honeymoon. But that's not to say we can't afford to stay somewhere nice or buy drinks!
