How difficult is it to drive from Sherman Oaks to Santa Barbara and from SB to Los Alamitos?

I am visiting a friend in Sherman Oaks and I have never been to Santa Barbara. If I drive from SO to Sb how long and difficult will it be if I leave around 10am?
Likewise, I will be driving to Los Alamitos to visit other friends, probably leaving SB around 1pm. Another option is to take the train from Van Nuys to SB and maybe rent a car and drive back to Los Alamitos. Thoughts? Is it a pleasant/scenic train ride?
Thanks. PS is it worthwhile to visit SB for 24hrs?

The drive from Sherman Oaks to SB is about an hour. At 10 am, you likely will avoid traffic...

The train is nice, but will take a lot longer. The car ride on Highway 101 is very scenic with gorgeous ocean views...

Sb is worth visiting for 24 hours. While a lot more time is needed to see the whole town...you can get a good sample in 24 hours...
