How cold will it be at Yellowstone next week?
 

My husband and I are leaving for Grand Teton/Yellowstone next week and the weather forecast is pretty iffy. He is convinced we will be freezing. We are staying at Colter Bay and Grant Village. Will there be adequate heat or should he take his sleeping bag? I say the people who run those places know about cold nights and we'll be fine. He envisions frostbite.

We stayed at Colter Bay in a cabin last year (mid-Sept.), and the nights were down in the upper 30s. The cabins have heat, so I don't think you'll have any major freezing issues. Just follow the normal suggestions for cool weather...light layers so you can peel as it warms and add as it cools.

We thought the cabins, while quite spartan, were nice and clean and did quite well for the price. Have fun!

Take layered clothing and you will be fine! We just returned and it was really warm during the day, (we wore shorts). The nights were very comfortable and cool.

Don't forget to take some good Scotch to ward off the cold.

Colter Bay unit we stayed in had wall heater. We were fine last June when snowing outside. I don't know about Grant Village. At OF Inn the central heat was turned on at set time each evening and off in the morning. We were either cold or hot there.

Just returned Aug. 30th and it was still 70's in the day, but they were predicting snow for several days later. In high altitude areas it was in the 50's. Layered clothing is best as you get really warm hiking and cool mornings and evenings.

If you plan on going out early in the mornings, take gloves.

We had a great time last week with all kinds of weather. Our first day at Grand Teton was lovely, highs in the 70's. Things went downhill after that. There was rain/snow/wind/sun or a combination of all four every day. We came prepared so the weather never stopped us from doing anything outdoors. We enjoyed the cabins at Colter Bay. Grant Village was pretty generic, but WARM!

In Colorado, we just had our first overnight below freezing. So, you can get any weather. It could be 80 or it could be 30. Be prepared for both. (even in the same day!)
