How cheap are the shops in Vegas?
 

On average how much cheaper are the outlets/hotel shops in Vegas?
In England a men's Ralph lauren polo t'shirt with a big horse is £110 which is roughly $178, as my teenagers are writing myself and my husband a list of clothes they would like us to buy them during our trip to Vegas I would like to know if it's worth putting them out of their misery now lol.

In general, most American-designer clothing by U.S. manufacturers is about 50% cheaper in regular (not outlet) stores in the US than it is in the UK, but this does vary by manufacturer. I've found that clothing in the Gap is about the same price in Europe than here, but that clothing in the UK is still more expensive than in most of continental Europe. If you can find the sizes you need, outlet stores can be 25% to 50% cheaper than that. So for you a lot.

I warn you that it's been a while since I bought a Polo shirt, but the last one I bought was around US$70.

Shops in the hotel are not cheap at all - typically complete rip-offs. You need to go to the malls to get much better prices.

But if you go to Ralph Lauren's online store the men's regular polo shirts (not tees) start at US$85.

Don't know LV discount shopping or if they have an RL outlet there. If not, you could order the shirts to be sent to your hotel.

You could also order them online and have them sent to your home but shipping will probably be very expensive and you might have to pay duty.

(If I can't find a book I really want on amazon I sometimes go to amazon.uk - but the books are about twice what we pay for the same item - never mind the shipping.)

Be careful at Outlets. Much of the merchandise is outlet-specific- it was created to be sold at a discount. Hotel/casino shops are generally quite overpriced.

But the regular department stores will have better prices than you can find in the UK for many brands.

Macy's has everything from inexpensive self-brands to designer lines

Nordstrom is generally more upscale

Neiman Marcus is high end.

The online prices should be the same as to what is carried in regular stores - not outlets.

The polo shirt version with the huge horse appears to be $98 on the website. Would be the same in major department stores.

Typically these brands go on sale rarely in the stores - and usually at the same time everywhere - as opposed to no-name brands, which are on sale all year on and off.

Agree that stuff in outlet stores may or may not be identical to what you get in the major department stores.

The stuff in outlets is often made specifically for the outlets and may not be in the same quality, colors, or appearance as the regular stock.

Have been to outlet stores and some have the same quality as the name manufacturer - and others - less so.

You can also walk around the shops at the Planet Hollywood and other casinos (Caesar's etc) - and they usually have some sales going, and also don't forget to check the various shopping centers for sales. The Premium stores/Fashion Show Mall - across from Wynn's - almost alwayS have some name brands on sale. BTW - I for one do not like the Polo brand with the big horse. Much prefer the smaller, more "discreet" style.

And here in San Diego - I have looked carefully at the Polo store by my former office in La Jolla - and also in Fashion Valley - and then checked out the one down by the border - which was in an outlet center - and to my eye/feel - the quality on the shirts I prefer was the same, at about half the retail price. :)

Costco even used to carry Polo brand shirts - but haven't seen them lately.

Go to Dillards, Nieman Marcus or like store at the Fashion Mall and you should be able to find Ralph Lauren Polos from $50 (sale rack) to $100.

I probably have a couple dozen RL Polo shirts. I don't think I've ever bought one for more than half price -- usually around $30-$35. I watch for sales at places like Macy's or Dillards where they are often on major sale -- often better than the RL outlet. The outlets are nice if you have an extra 25% or so coupon, sometimes you can print those online. So usually these are last year's model or color. So? What's the difference if I buy last year's now or if I buy this year's now and wear it next year?

By the way, don't be fooled by the Rome destination guide ad in this thread. Despite having Caesars Palace, Bellagio, and the Venetian -- Las Vegas is not near Rome! LOL

Teenagers don't want the little pony. Head to the mall... You should be able to find what they want between 80-100 US dollars per shirt.

My guests from Japan like to buy brand name fragrances and cosmetics at our department stores. I don't know how our prices compare to Europe, but if you have daughters who care about such things, it's worth bringing their favorite colors and brands. Most cosmetics you can still carry on the plane, but you need to have them in your large Ziploc bag.

I have adopted the custom of inquiring in every outlet store that I go into about the source of the merchandise. I try to do it in as polite a way as I can---"Is your stock made especially for the outlet?" or "Is this stock the same as in the non-outlet?" I no longer buy anything that is outlet-specific, as it is of a lesser quality.

A Merrell store I went to was one of the only ones that said it is the same stock in all of their stores, outlet or regular.

You're in for a treat. The shops in the popular tourist areas are not cheap unless items are on sales (Macy's in the Fashion Show Mall is sometimes good for getting deals), but for better deals, you'll need to go further out. Plan on bringing lots of money.. You'll ave about 50% compared to what you're paying in Europe. Maybe more if you hit a good sale.
