I used to work at a Roadhouse (of the Brown Derby variety). We called it the Roachhouse. I don't like steak so I can't really comment on the food (good salad though).

Is this related to the Texas Roadhouse (there's one in our area too, same concept), or completely different?

We went to one when in Knoxville last month...the bread rolls are great! I had a chicken salad (very good), DH had a steak and sweet potato (he LOVED the sweet potato), friends daughter had a chicken sandwich that looked good. So I have to say we had a good experience, and from the amount of people in there I would say it is a fav!

Hi. Just returned from the local Texas Roadhouse here in my rustbelt town. Went early with my son and didnt have to wait for a table. When we left there were several parties waiting to be seated.

Food was fine, I had a chicken and shrimp dish. Service was excellent and the manager stopped by to ask how things were for us. Didn't find it especially noisy at all. Sure, lots of families, but thats to be expected.

All in all I'd say it was an enjoyable dinner out.

Texas Roadhouse is usually one of my favorite places to get a hamburger, which comes with fries and runs about $7. Maybe less. Our local branch is always busy.

The only bad experience I've had at Texas Roadhouse was at Concord, NC, where my burger was way overcooked and took too long to arrive -- we would have complained but the service was terrible! So travelers may do well to avoid the Texas Roadhouse in Concord.

I brought up this old one, because last weekend- very serendipity 12 of us from various directions all met at a very local to me Texas Roadhouse.

We were 10 at 2 tables when we started and I only called about 10 minutes before the first 6 of us got there. They can't move tables but they did a top notch job. There were 5 kids and 7 adults eventually- but BIG kids- so we only had 1 little guy to squeeze in- but they bought extra chairs and did a super job in trying to supply all our needs.

Everyone had different drinks and meals and a few did have desserts, and they also brought out the horse for a 63rd birthday and a 14th birthday ride- two choruses with the kerchief YA-HOO. Then the next table got involved and we had a third birthday ride.

We overstayed and had a FABULOUS time and they did not rush us or fail in any sense with any issue. My youngest Granddaughter excelled in her seafood choices and banter with Rebecca, our waitress.

With groups this large, it is often difficult- especially within very long waiting period as "normal" or last minute logistics. But this one was a 9 out of 10. It would have been a 10 if we had had a bit more space.

And I never tried their pulled pork before. I had the sandwich- and it was delicious.

As we were leaving the groups waiting were out in the snowpiles- so I want to give Texas Roadhouse some good words for not rushing us or hampering our get together in anyway.

They aren't bad but of that genre, Longhorn is probably the best. They do have $1.25 beers some nights.

There's a Longhorn about 10 blocks from the Texas- on the same street. But we haven't been. We have probably a good 50 sports bars, pubs or private small diners or ethnic restaurants near us (within 2 miles)- so we rarely go to the franchise ones.

I love Texas Roadhouse, it's one of my favorite places. The prices are very reasonable and much of the food is good. I'm not saying it's gourmet or as good as a high end expensive steakhouse but good. The steaks are very lean and tender and the bread is good, you get a big salad and loaded baked potato, yummy. Of course there are other things too. Also, the serve giant margaritas and beer is huge mugs and ice cold like it should be. The staff is friendly and helpful. Only downside as someone else said is they are loud, especially if you go at dinner time. It doesn't bother me but it might you. However, avoid from 6:30-8:pm as the lines can be long and the place crowded. Either go earlier or later.
