How are conditions in Charlotte NC?

My DH and I are scheduled to go to Charlotte NC in about 10 days and are wondering what the conditions are. Were the hurricanes tough on this part of the state of NC? Any current information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

My brother called Thurs afternoon and they had just gotten a lot of rain.
I think it is west of Charlotte that got such a pounding.
I think they are expecting good weather for the next week though.

Thanks Scarlett! Sounds like we should be OK.

I'm in Charlotte right now, visiting family. Although we got a fair amount of rain yesterday, it wasn't terrible. Nothing like the rains that they had here from Frances. There were some funnel clouds in the area, but nothing touched down that I know of. Today was beautiful - sunny, pleasant temps (low 70's)- we drove out into the country today, and everything looked fine. I believe that the mountains to the west took quite a beating, though - lots of mudslides, and washed out roads and bridges there. However, things are fine in Charlotte.

It is gorgeous with a bit of a break in the temperature and humidity. It was the mountains that are in real trouble. And our drought is definitely over.

Thanks everyone, for the information. We will be coming in from the west, as our drive starts in central Illinois. Are there closed roads (interstates) that we should be aware of? We plan to travel on 75 out of Cincinnati, 40 from Knoxville to Asheville, and then east to Charlotte. What should we know about this route? Anything?
Thanks again.

Asheville took a really big hit. I would check with AAA or someone in that area, I have heard some roads are closed in the mountains.
Best of luck!

Simpson, route 40 is closed between miles 67-69 and from the Tennessee state line to mile mile 20 in NC. I read it should be reopen in a few days or months. I would call DOT in NC and Department of Safety in TN 1-800-342-3258 before you get on the road or avoid this section.
Here is what I found on North Carolina DOT website www.ncdot.org

Special Alert
SEVERE WEATHER AFFECTS TRAVEL IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

I-40 IS CLOSED IN HAYWOOD COUNTY BETWEEN THE TENNESSEE STATE LINE AND MILEMARKER 20

I-40 is closed in Haywood County between the Tennessee State Line and milemarker 20 due to the road being washed away. Westbound I-40 traffic is being detoured onto I-240 west in Asheville to I-26 west into Tennessee, then to I-81 south back to I-40. Eastbound I-40 traffic is being detoured onto I-81 north in Tennesse to I-26 east to I-240 east back to I-40 in Asheville.

Also, one of three lanes of I-40 is currently closed in each direction between Milemarkers 67-69 due to a mudslide on Old Fort Mountain caused by Hurricane Frances. All lanes are expected to re-open by the end of September. This is approximately 20 miles east of Asheville, NC.

Most counties in western North Carolina are experiencing impassable roadways due to the effects of Hurricane Ivan. Specific road closures can be found by selecting a region, route, or a county from the pull down menus below.

NEVER DRIVE INTO OR AROUND STANDING OR MOVING WATER....TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
