How about Mountain Chalet-Aspen?
 

We are thinking of staying at the Mountain Chalet for one night mid September. Has anyone stayed there? We would appreciate any comments.

Yes, I stayed there a full week the past two summers and I absolutely love it there even though it's not the typical hotel DH and I book. I went to Aspen by myself for an adult figure skating camp and the Mountain Chalet was one of two hotels offering camp-goers a discount. Breakfast is included in the price, the rooms are clean and well kept and the location is terrific, right across the street from a park and within easy walking distance of restaurants, etc. The folks who own it I believe are Austrian and couldn't be more welcoming. It's not high end but it is warm and cozy and I just can't say enough good things about this place. Have you checked Trip Advisor? I remember reading favorable reviews before going there the first time. Enjoy a nice trip!

I've stayed there too, about two years ago in July, and loved it as well! The best bargain by far in Aspen and the location couldn't be better - right next door to the St. Regis and a heckuva lot cheaper! Clean rooms, excellent amenities, free parking in an underground garage, courteous staff. Mid-September is an outstanding time to visit Aspen as well... the aspens will be turning gold and the crowds are gone. Hope you can make it to Maroon Bells while you're there - the most photographed peaks in North America for a reason!

but it is an older property so expect a lot of new and shiny things.
